Here is S184699 a Model 29 which shipped April 30th, 1959 to Rex Firearms in NYC, in what is called for the lack of a better term, a "transition case." The case is the later mahogany case with the latches, liner, and tools of the earleir style blue/black box. There has been no 8 3/8ths black case that's been documented and I only know of less than 10 of this style case reported to date. They do turn up though from time to time.
Enjoy :)

interior of case is polished cotton. Note the connecting piece between to lid and bottom tray that covers up the hinge as on the previous cases. This piece is often missing when these boxes are discovered.

This gun came with smooth Rosewood stocks when I acquired it, but it doesn't letter that way.

Chuck,

I have S186162 that was shipped 4/22/59 that is in a transition case. The gun isn't as good at about 98% and the case lining is a little better. I really didn't know the cases were that rare.
