Hi everyone I am new to the forum and I have some Questions. To start off I am a glock guy thru and thru But.. I love m&p's also I've owned several over the years and I'm going back to them for duty usage. now this isn't a department issued firearm this is my personal firearm and I am looking to upgrade and enhance it to make it what i would think would be, the best fighting pistol for me. some of the changes i would like to make are... #1 barrel. I'm looking at a semi drop in threaded barrel and narrowed it down to 3 choices (1. bar-sto 2.wilson combat and 3. stormlake) I would like some feed back on accuracy and if they increase reliability and such. Ive read some about how the factory barrels aren't great as of late and are having some major issues. #2 on my list is triggers what is my best option for a good reliable trigger system i.e. the apex duty setup with their one piece trigger, I would like to hear some pros and cons of that system and if anyone has a significant amount of time and rounds down range with that setup and if there's any reliability issues with it. I do my own stippling and grip enhancements so that isn't a topic i want to worry about. and #3 what do you guys recommend I do to run my duty ammo out of this blaster. I currently use Winchester 124gr +p+ rangers out of my duty guns. as that is the ammo we are issued i can run 147gr rangers if i can get my hands on it but its hard to get ahold of in my area. thank you for all your opinions and advice. sincerely Gonzo

First make sure you are allowed to change parts on your duty pistol... Some departments may not like it.

Second... I have not heard of issues with the current factory barrels. Is there a reason to get a threaded barrel?

Apex makes a good trigger. It is tuneable for overtravel if you know what to do. Reducing overtravel too much can possibly make the pistol less reliable after a few thousand rounds, as parts wear in. I always keep a little overtravel in my pistols to ensure there are no issues.

If you can't change parts, but they are not picky with a gunsmith tuning the existing parts, do that... Its not difficult with the proper tools for a gunsmith to reprofile the sear and striker bock plunger.

thanks for the info on the trigger. that was one of the topics I wasn't really sure about.. the department I am in isn't picky at all its a small department and as long as its not a borough owned gun they dont care but we do have to use issued ammo.. the reason behind the threaded barrel is i have a 9mm can and i like the little extra and the look of a T.B. lol Im also going to be purchasing a non T. barrel ... the issue ive read about was after a couple hundred rounds accuracy diminishes rapidly and even reports of rounds key-holing down range. to tell you about how our department is our chief carries a custom night hawk 1911. hell if we didnt use our own AR's we wouldnt have any at all

I have over a thousand rounds through my barrel, bought summer last year. No issues... I say use the factory barrel, and then get a threaded for when you want to use a silencer.

I second the Duty AEK kit... and get the AEK poly trigger as well. I like the poly better than aluminum... Smoother feel to my finger, and easier to assemble.

So you use Winchester +p+... Show your bosses some of the videos from TNoutdoors9... He does ammo tests. He recently did a comparison of +p to standard pressure rounds. The standard pressure rounds penetrated farther on average. The +p expands a little more and it causes less penetration... Penetration is better than .05 more expansion.

Recent advances in bullet design are making +p less relevant. Save some wear and tear on your pistols and probably increase marksmanship scores, and make for easier followup shots.
