I saw a post recently that spoke about 38 S&W ammo.
Whoever was making it, was saying that their ammo
was too hot for top-breaks.
I'd really like to try some, but AMMO TO GO and REED's
are not listing it. Just standard 38 S&W.
Anybody recall who had the good stuff?
TIA, TACC1.

TACC1 this is the 3rd wimpy ammo thread I've seen here this afternoon..lol

Don't know where you are but remember seeing some in the local Dunham's....looked like a "cowboy load" box......

Thanks for helping out

murphydog and BAM-BAM,
Thanks for the replies. My usually poor memory
finally kicked in, and remembered it was B-B ammo.
Not only that, but the Forum member who said that
Tom Sundles was a stand-up guy were right on in their estimate
Tom answered my e-mail right away, and said I should
be ordering directly from B-B. I think I will do just that.

Check out also, The Old Western Scrounger.
The Buffalo Bore 38S&W is NOT recomended
for top breaks. The OLD Western Scrounger
offers some you can use in one I believe.
Be sure and ask them if it is OK to use in
a top break before you order. Goose

A little confused here TACC1. Are you looking for "hot" ammo or trying to avoid it? I have an Enfield MK2* and a Cold Police Positive in addition to my 2 top breaks. I was under the impression that most 38S&W ammo was safe for all the older guns...

The oldest of them were designed for 38 S&W in black powder, like the 1800s vintage iver Johnsons and H&Rs. I assume that's what you're looking for, black powder loads?

They're right, if it was built for black powder the standard smokeless loads would be too hot for it. Even low loads of smokeless isn't advised.

I know Buffalo Arms carries it but most places are out of stock, they seem to be but are allowing backorders. With the shortage on other calibers some makers (like Hornady) are concentrating their lines on those high demand/high volume calibers which is now creating shortages in the odd calibers. Not sure black powder would be as affected as I don't know if those production lines would be interchangeable, but it seems like all of it is in short supply.
