My brother-in-law suffered a stroke a couple of years ago that weakened the strength and control of his right hand so he is trying to learn to shoot his revolvers left handed. He’s worked out a technique to shoot single action, but also wants to shoot his Smiths double action (as they should be). Unfortunately, he doesn’t quite have the hand strength yet to shoot double action since his guns have the standard 10-12 pound factory trigger pulls.

Can anybody recommended a good shop or gunsmith in the Colorado Springs area that might be able to help him out with a reliable lighter trigger action job?

If I remember correctly- Elmer said 3 pounds like breaking glass.
Have not actually measured, but I have a couple in the 4-5 zone.

I’m pretty sure you could just swap in a spring kit and lighten the pull considerably.

In the mean time he should exercise that hand; A lot.

If you were only closer to Louisiana ... Clark Custom Guns ... could fix you right up ... Trigger Jobs are the best .

Either of the gunsmithing schools in Colorado should be able to help you, the School of Trades in Denver or Trinidad State College in Trinidad.

If he can see clear to dedicate certain revolvers for target practice and plinking only, the easiest and least expensive way would be to swap out the rebound salide spring to an 11 pound Wolff and shorten the length of the strain screw slightly. Bring the gun to the range after the new rebound spring is installed and then back out the strain screw until it no longer works properly. Then tighten it until it works 100%. Count how many turns it is loosened by tightening it again, then remove that much of the screws threads. Always keep the screw tight! Just adjust its length. It helps to do this on replacement screws and not the original should you want to restore it with the factory screw. Avoid the temptation to just leave the screw backed out - it can work it's way out of the grip frame.

I'd test the mod's with CCI ammo as the CCI primers are usually known to be the hardest to set off reliably. This mod would run less than $25 bucks and is not hard to do.

I'd dedicate said modified revolver to range work only and not use this for SD, HD, or CCW. Just a suggestion as I do not know your or his mechanical abilities. Not a very hard job if familiar with S&W revolvers.
