recommended 9mm

the glock 34c is a 9mm compensated(ported ) pistol that will have less flip, less felt recoil than the m and p, but since the m and p comes with 3 backstraps, she may find it will fit her hands better. I personally prefer m and p. there is a compact , 4 .25 and a 5 inch. she should get the 4.25 inch m and p

IMO, the FS M&P 9 has the least felt recoil of most of the 9mms. If she is willing to learn to operate and shoot a semi-auto, the FS M&P 9 would be a good choice.

I can't imagine a softer shooter?
Do you have any feel for whether she'll have difficulty operating the slide? The longer slide/barrel length guns typically, are easier to rack the slides on. If she's OK with .38 Special level of recoil out of a K or L frame size gun, I can't imagine a mid/full size 9 causing her trouble.

I have the M&P9c and find the recoil totally manageable
I have small hands & use the smallest backstrap

I was surprised how little recoil & "Flip" there is
even when using the magazine without the finger extension

I'm pretty sure that I've commented here before on how low the recoil feels out of my M&Ps and particularly the 9c. I feel it has less muzzle flip than any other 9 I've owned/tried. I believe allot of that is in the ergonomics. The gun just fits my (medium) hands better than any other single/double stack 9.
As an aside, several weeks ago we were running our annual Snubbie shoot. After the match (i.e an evening of shooting .38 target loads out of my mod 60 and 638 J frames) I picked up my 9c which was loaded with Winchester white box ball. I was amazed at how much less felt recoil that the 9c had than than the .38 snubbies with light ammo. There really was that much difference.

My guess is she'll like the M&P if she likes a semi at all.

X2

Onlything is that I have big hands and the big grip.

The soft, wide grip of my M&P40c makes it a very comfortable shooter and the perceived recoil of the "snappy" .40 round is more than manageable with it. The lighter 9mm load in the full size should be very soft. I highly recommend it, you'll find none better.

PS. I just bought a Storm Lake conversion barrel to 9mm and FS mags for my 40c, so soon I'll be able to back up my opinion better.

I have the M&P 9 and really like it.

The low bore line keep muzzle flip and recoil to a minimum.

The adjustable backstrap fits the gun to your hand.

The slide has a 14-pound spring, which is fairly easy to retract. (I got this mixed up earlier with the M&P45c, which has a 16-pound spring.)

The gun takes apart and puts back together very easily.

She'll love it!

Due to its low bore axis and ergonomics, the H&K P7 wins the lowest muzzle flip award (for me) of the semi-autos. If recoil is a problem, I find the Sigmas have the least amount of recoil for me due to the polymer frame (it flexes) and the grip angle. The only modification I make to the Sigma is a Hogue grip sleeve.

Best of luck,

Dave

I have an M&P 45 compact, and its a pussycat for a 45... I can only imagine that the 9mm would be very comfortable to shoot.
