Probably a Smithing question, so please move if necessary. More folks hang out in the Lounge though.;)

I called SW CS and they do not have any. I have a buggered side plate, round head screw and need a better one, The one that holds the cylinder/yoke. It is not the kind with a plunger.

Anyone have one I can beg, borrow buy or steal?:)

Thanks

Try Jack First Gunshop 605-343-9544. When I need parts S&W did not have. They gave several places and this is the one I used.

Midway has them for a little over 2 dollars. Only problem is it needs to be ordered in conjuction with other stuff or the shipping takes cost up immensely. A friend sent me a holster and wants one in return. If you order please get two and I will pay your for the screw and your efforts. I am still looking locally and if I find a couple I will get one for you. When I checked with Midway last week they had them for J's and N's (no K's). I was wanting to build an assortment for all the frame sizes but that didn't work.

Regards

Bill

If just the head of the screw is buggered up, maybe you can dress it out with a fine file & hit it with some cold blue to make it more presentable. At least until you can get a replacement.

I searched through my tools for something thin enough to do that as I don't have a screw head file. Looks like I may have to break out the DREMEL:eek:;)

Actually the screw is not all that bad, I just got the gun and after I got it loose and cleaned the threads it works OK. Someone torqued it in there and messed up the slot. I went with a larger bit head and at least removed it.

Wellllll. I called SW service again. Seems the person I spoke with this morning was not awake yet (I have spoken with him many times and he is always very helpful)

So I got a different person and low and behold they have one, and he is sending it.:):)

They are saying this screw is BLUE in the description but they list it for stainless models. Call before ordering.

If you truly can't find one anywhere, PM me and I'll look in my box of treasures to see if I can find one.

I will see what SW sends me. The pictured screw is not the screw I need. Mine has a taper to hold the yolk. Thanks though for your help.

When did S&W come up with the plunger for the yoke retention screw? Great idea. I have three old M36's on each of which the two round-head screws are visually identical-- however, if I get the wrong one in the forward (yoke-retention) screw-hole, the yoke will bind. Besides being immediately indentifiable with the bare eye, the plunger allows for a little "plus or minus" on length that you don't get with a soild screw. Maybe not worth a new dash number but a positive "engineering change" nonetheless.

Yes, mine look identical.(on this gun and several others) The SW CS said I may have to "fit" the new screw by grinding off some of the tip.

I guess the smart thing to do would be to buzz the longer of the screws off so that either one would work in the forward hole-- that's probably why I haven't already done it.
