I want to install a HiViz front site on my 617-1. The revolver has a pinned front sight but the HiViz is not pre-drilled.

I appreciate if someone can help me do this correctly:

How do I remove the pin?
What # drill bit do I use for the new sight?
How do I drill the new sight ?

Thanks,

After using a fitted punch to drive out the pin and remove the old sight, the new sight is put in and drilled from both sides with a drill press.

Not having a drill press, I watched my gunsmith do it.

Looks tough to do any other way without making a mess.

Drill bit size is #54. The hole can be made with a hand held drill, but you need to go very slow and drill from both sides. I find that whatever way you do it, it helps to super glue the sight in place before you start. Seems to work better than trying to clamp the sight.

I've often wondered about this. Is it possible to line up the old sight and the new, clamp them together, and then drill through old to the new?

Seems like it could work.

krehmkej has it right.

Take the Hi-Viz to a good smith and have him do it.

The smith does this several times a week. He has the tools and the experience.
