Have nice garden and space of 60 meters by 10. I would like to construct out of concrete in this space 4-3 stand shooting range for air gun and guns. When the sound proof door is closed there will be no outside noise due to thickness of walls even when shooting large caliber guns i.e. 44 magnum.

Please advise what is involved and how to go on about doing something like that.

May be someone already has indoor shooting range at home.

Thanks

God bless

Eric

First thing to check on is any city ordanences that may cause you any problems. Then air control. You don't want to shoot a firearm inside a building withiut proper ventilation. I don't recall but the correct is something like 50 complete changes of air per hr. Then there is the backstop, it must be able to stop whatever caliber ou are planning to use. There are commercial bullet stops available. Then there is lead removal.

The NRA has information available on range construction, If you stick to air gun, you will have many fewer problems. I do have a 10 meter air gun range in my basement, and you don't have to worry about air exchange or backstop, just regular ventilation and a pellet trap.

Check Local Firearms Laws and Building Codes for legality.

Check your INSURANCE LIABILITY COVERAGE.

Ventilation? Gun Powder and Lead do need filtered ventilation.

What type of Backstop do you intend to construct?

Is this Above or Below ground construction?

How close are your neighbors in all directions?

If above ground and concrete (block or solid pour) with a soundproof door, it will not be SOUNDPROOF. What's the Roof Construction?

I will use backstop that works. Not sure whats best option on market now.

It will be above ground.

Neighbors wall/fence is about 2 meters away.

I will be using sound proofing tiles.

This whole building will be purpose built from scratch. At the moment I have space for it and I am looking for ideas that work from people who know how to get it done well.

Thanks

Is your neighbor ok with this? They could raise hell if they find out you are in a little shed pointing guns at their house :p

I do not know where you live but NYS has this little rule and very possibly other states/towns /counties do also. Check it out

It is illegal to discharge a fire arm 500' from a occupied dwelling unless you have permission.

I have a outdoor range on my property and the only times I cannot shoot is the occasional weekend that my nearest neighbor comes up to their camp.

I have permission from government and my neighbor is ok with it as he will come to shoot him self. Thus this project is a go ahead.

As far as garden shooting goes; I've found watermelons a good place to start and tomatoes are great.

Is this a TROLL ??

This could be a troll.

In addition to zoning, environmental regulations for lead, air handling, lighting, and liability insurance there is a COST to be addressed.

The suggested size 60 x 10 meter (33 x 198 feet) will cost a VERY HIGH to construct. If government funded would be a candidate for the, no longer offered, Golden Fleece award.

I have some knowledge of acoustics and acoustical treatment.
The amount and cost of sound absorption material required will also be VERY HIGH.

I am SKEPTICAL,

If your going to shoot in the garden you will need a silencer, as loud noises stunt the growth of most vegetables.
You don't want to "wilt" the lettuce with that 44 Magnum.

What is your budget for this project? There are several ways to do it.

People advise me to do just air gun shooting range due to complexities having gun shooting range.

If possible I would like this range also to double as gun shooting range.

My budget is to get this done properly and safely. What it takes it takes as I am not going to compromise on safety.

As the golden saying goes "better safe than sorry".

Thanks

I can't post a link but if you look at benchrest.com and search for Gene Beggs shooting tunnel you will find a lot of info. They built a 100yd tunnel range for benchrest rifle testing. A lot depends on caliber and volume of fire. Savage makes a fluid snail trap, some use steel angled plates with sand or granulated rubber. One company makes rubber blocks. Be particularily cautious about ventilation and unburned powder residue as it can cause a flash fire. Good luck. Share with us what you learn as I have considered building one myself. Hope this helps a little.

IMO once you see the cost estimates you'll re-consider. A 60 x 10 meter range is a VERY LARGE range. I'm just guessing but I suspect that you may be looking at 1 to 2 million dollars. BTW, this is based on the construction cost for a local range that opened up 4 years ago, at 25 meters that range cost over 1/2 million dollars to build and equip. Granted, it's a first class range with state of the art target carriers but armored buildings do NOT come cheap.
