He all, just wondering what you use for Hornady XTP .41 Mag 210 gr. bullets? Looking for full power mag loads. If you have stats that would be great!
Thanks for any input.

For full power loads, it's hard to beat 296 (H110) or 'Lil Gun. Some people say that 'Lil Gun causes flame cutting but I haven't seen any evidence in my 41. 296 makes very impressive muzzle flash! Check Hodgdon's website for loads with either of these powders.

I use AA #9 or N110 for .41 and .44 Magnum. A ton of w-296/H-110 has been burned in those calibers, along with 2400, but I like those two.

RalphK22's load was what I used as a duty load for 13 years. It's purty durn salty and does the job.

Along with the above suggestions add 4227 and even Alliant's new 300 MP.

You will get good results with most magnum type powders and it really only comes down to preference or availability.

The best velocity and full power load I have used was the 210gr Hornady XTP on top of 17.5grs of 2400 in virgin factory primed Winchester cases the load produced an average of 1,413 fps 10' from the muzzle from my S&W 57 with 6" barrel. 17.5grs or 2400 was the max load listed by Alliant in their free manual, other manuals listed higher and lower max loads from 16.5 up to 20.0 grs for 210gr jacketed bullets.

A load of 20.3grs of H110 produced 1,286 fps using the 210gr Remington JSP from the same pistol.

The best I' ve found for 215/210 gr hard cast SWCs is 17/2400, std primers, Rem or Starline brass, firm roll crimp. I like 2400 far better than any of the ball powders, and it has been slightly more accurate in my three M57s; I've been loading this combination for 25 years. I've also found that 17.5/2400 w/ 210 gr jacketed bullets prints to same POI at 50 yards as the above SWC load.

I have found that 18 grains of 2400, firm roll crimp and primer of your choice will kill deer like hitting them with a hammer!! Gary

18 grains of 2400 and primer of choice will do the job. It has been my go to jacketed bullet load for years. Same load works well with hard cast bullets like Laser Cast. Gary

Well it would seem that H110, 296 and 2400 seem to be the powders of choice. Between these which would you all say meter the best?

H110 and W 296 are Exactly the same.

They and 2400 are ball powder and all meter very well. Really no difference in metering.

The advantage of 2400 over the H110 is that you do not need a Mag primer for 2400 and 2400 can be reduced in charge weight. H110 is pretty much all or nothing (3% reduction is allowed)

If you need to buy powder, I would by the 2400 (more versatile)

Steve,
Hodgdon is reporting a Max charge of 22.0gr H110/W296 under a 210gr Hornady XTP bullet. You are just a hair above the starting charge weight of 19.8gr. That might be the reason 2400 is producing more velocity than H110 which is unusual.

I use 8.5 grains of Unique over a 215 grain lead SWC myself. It is a great load. Very pleasant to shoot. Very accurate.
