Looking Up Phone Number

If you plug the name into Google, sometimes phone numbers will show up. Usually a bunch of folks with the same name, but if you know the city you can winnow it down.

Probably better to add city and state with the name. I tried a couple of people I know and it worked.

If it's a current cell phone number and the owner hasn't listed it as a contact in a public posting somewhere on the internet in the last dozen years, then it might be difficult.

I searched for absentee property owners 10+ years ago and it was difficult then with land lines and getting people to answer.

I think there is still a web site called White Pages.

I'm old, too, so I used old fashioned ways to track people down. I seem to remember public libraries having telephone directories from all over the country. I haven't had a need to play detective for a number of years so I don't know whether that is still the case but it couldn't hurt to check.

Frequently you can find information on a person by simply entering their name in a google search including city/state if known. Try both First Last and Last First. I looked for an old high school classmate for two years on and off before finally finding a land line number for her. Probably 20 searches. There are several people finder programs and you may get a different one each time you do a search. They will have different information and may charge/require a membership to see the information!

I've simply typed White Pages into the search bar and I'm pretty sure it will have spaces to put name and state, city also if you know it. Like Alk8944 said they may want you to pay to join. Some same name people will often have their age to help narrow it down, and other people associated with the person/address so one can be pretty confident that is who they want. Another "bait" to charge you to join is there may be convictions, etc., that is on their record, hoping people's "neb-nose/curiosity" will lure them in for the sale. Phone numbers and often addresses are free most of the time, depending on which of the scores of sites you use.

DO NOT click on ANY link to INTELIUS.COM, they frequently come up to the top when doing one of these searches. Remember they gather information on people and that includes you, when you click onto their website. I accidentally clicked on their site when doing a search for someone and they immediately started hitting my one and only credit card for monthly charges. I NEVER gave them any credit card info or even gave them ANY kind of my info. When I checked them out thru the BBB, there were hundreds of complaints of the same MO.

I was also hoping to also find a functional reverse lookup site on this thread.

I've frequently had need to look up a number. All I seem to get online are teases. They suggest they have the information you seek but are only looking for data on you or seeking a fee.

Best way to start is to just do a Google, etc., search on the name and their city or state. There are many "people search" engines out there. Some are free, others are not. Some of those without a fee may allow limited free information. Main problem is that you will probably will not find a cell phone number. If there is a land line number, it may well be obsolete. I might suggest trying Facebook also. If they have a Facebook page, you can contact the person directly by sending a message to them through that.

I search for people all over the country frequently. I'd say there is about a 50/50 chance you can find some kind of phone number.
