Messing around on Gun Broker (I really should stop that) and put in a min bid on a Frakenstein. Victory frame, 2 inch barrel, ramp front sight, large ejector rod end milled into barrel, no lug. Lanyard ring cut off. In a couple of hours if no one else snipes me I will have this wonderfull mix of parts. It looks really nice though, reblued and custom grips. Now I know the collectors value of a restored Victory will not be much but it is just for my private collection. I am thinking of turning it back into a nice Vic. Three questions, one what was the original park color, grey, black etc, two, left or right hand threaded ejector rod, when did it change, what will I need, and three I have found most all the parts needed, except the ring, any readily available? Thnks for the help. If it shoots good I may just swap the barrel for a nice two inch I know of and keep it a snubby, oh my acheing head.

Sounds like an interesting project. The wartime finish varies between a light-medium to dark grey; some refinishers will know what you want if you specify wartime US military finish. The ejector rod is right-hand thread, which was changed in 1961.

That's a dangerous pass-time.
Browsing these forums is bad enough. It gives me ideas.

Unless I got it for an absolute giveaway price, maybe $50 or so, I wouldn't bother, even as an educational project. But it's your time & money. You can Parkerize (phosphate) it yourself, there are kits to do that available on the internet if you want to go all the way. Not too expensive and easily something you can do at home. There are different parkerizing formulations which will produce coloration from a medium-dark gray to a near-black. It really makes no difference which.

It would look something like this:
