Locally (in Central CT) there seem to be a more 39's and 59's on the shelves of local stores than in the past. On a drive by of the the two biggest dealers around here there were 2-3 of each available, at decent prices. I'm amazed that people are not picking these up at $300-350 prices.

Yea if you wanted to trade or sell a older sw auto thats all you would hear. No one wants them cant make a sale every one wants plastic. That is a good price on those guns . Arond here a shop wants 500 or close to 600 for wore out 4006 smiths

Obviously, time are TOUGH.

That said, apparently many guys put away 39's and 59's when they were being discontinued.

Because of the glut, they never really rose in value like many expected.

I had stated in an earlier thread about 39's, I come across unfired samples more often than those that are gently used.

This same situation occurs with the "Mauser Lugars", easier to find unfired than used.

It might seem odd, but this is what I have observed in the Northeast.

As Bob noted, he's been sitting on a stack of 4006 PD trade ins from FL with 2 magazines for $299 for quite a while. I looked for a long time for a good 59, finally got one, and now they're just laying around. I might have to get a 39 too.

They just have an eight round capacity, and like the 1911 with and 8 round capacity(it's just not enough for the Chairborne Rangers)I'll take 8 in a 39-2 .

For slim carry the Browning BDM is hard to beat!

Bob

(it's just not enough for the Chairborne Rangers)---that a great line! Read it last night and tried to remember it all day. Thanks for the laugh. Mike.

Can't believe the two 639s sitting in the Newington gun exchange for months. Good price, too. If I didn't already have one....

I looked long and hard at the 639 there today, couldn't quite convince myself I could afford another gun just now (but I am selling something off soon, maybe then).

Hello, My brother inlaw asked me to help him find a 39-2 If someone can give me some phone #'s of those dealers you are talking about I would call and and check it out. Thanks,Jim

The 639 is a great pistol. There's two of them at the Newington Gun Exchange if you look carefully. They've been there for quite awhile. The 639 is a heavy steel low-cap, not so popular these days. Sometimes the price tag can be negotiated. Great store, I bought a mint 40VE w/2 mags for $189- like $202 out-the-door. I've sold many guns there on consignment-can't beat 15%

Call Riverview Sales in East Windsor, CT 860-370-9939. They have a couple in great shape.

Around here the steel and the alloy S&W pistols are scarce. Nothing but plastic in the cases. The last good one that I found was a 6906, and it cost me over $400.00. Would like to find a good 59 locally.

Saw a nice, old 39 in Newington, but couldn't believe the lack of used guns in either Newington stores. Man, talk about a drought. Now is the time to market your used guns in Connecticut. A few months ago the "Exchange" had them stacked and ready for resale. East Windsor is a bit pricey, anyone ever try Milford or Stratford?

both K-5 and Guns and Safes used to be in Stratford. Both now in Milford. Both prices on high side.
