Lots of kill shots with my little 442

I finally made to the local indoor range yesterday.

I was mainly breaking in two new bottomfeeders but I also tried out my new 442.

I was shooting a man sized ghost target at 15 & 10 yards. Went through a box of Speer Gold Dot +p short barrel and a bunch of swc handloads.

Every shot cut through the image with no strays. I was highly impressed. This little monster will get it done. It's certainly not the gun you'd want in your hand for precision shooting, but for close range-gotta get 'em off you...this is your gun.

The GD loads were hitting my point of aim so I'm happy with that.

Need to stock up on some more GD loads and I need some speed strips. I see a midway order coming.

What do you use to hold your strips in?

I carry speed strips in my front pocket(s) and if I have jeans on then one fits perfectly in the 5th pocket. I'm of the mindset where if I'm reloading, things aren't going well. So I don't spend much effort getting tactical with reloads for my 642.

I'm positive there are pouches you can put on your belt that holds a couple strips if pockets weren't your cup of tea.

What do you use to hold your strips in?

congrats on your airweight centennial! mine is a great shooter as well, and very accurate.

i use the most versatile ammo pouch, from simplyrugged. perfect for pocket and belt carry. if carried in pocket, it will hold 8 rounds of .38/.357 in an 8-round speed strip. if carried on the belt, it will hold 7 rounds in the 8-round speed strip.

it also won't scar/mar your gun belt.

rob can hook you up with the 6 or 8 round speed strips as well.

My 642 shoots point of aim with 135 short barrel +p's, and its my daily carry. I like it so much I even bought a spare in case anything happens to my primary. I use a Mika pocket holster strong side with a speed strip in my weak side pocket, and Spegel grips.

It doesn't get better than that.

I carry two 5 round quik strips and two extra rounds in the small pouch from Tuff Products on my belt at 8 o"clock. My 637-2 is either in a Fobus paddle at 4 o'clock or in an Uncle Mikes in my right front pocket.

Seems like carrying your speed strip in the weak side pocket would make for a ~very~ slow reload. Do you reload with your weak hand?

That is the exact setup I am considering. Plan on going to look at the 642 tomorrow.

I carry two 6 round speed strips in my weak side front pocket. With speedloaders I shift my 442 to my weak hand and load the revolver with my strong side hand, but with speed strips the reload always seems to go faster loading from the weak hand side.

A friend of mine, a retired policeman, got me into the habit of carrying the 6th round on the speed strip. He said it's suprising how quickly you can run out of ammo, and the extra round or two might make all the difference.

I hope you enjoy your 442 as much as I do mine. I carry mine every day
in an Uncle Mike's ankle holster.

I love my 442, so much in fact I placed 642 Pro Series on lay away with BudsGunshop. I usually carry my 442 in my front pocket in a holster I I had made at Lobo that I am very happy with. If I carry a speed strip I carry it my strong side pocket. Once I get my 642 I am going to have the 442 machined to accept moon clips like the 642.

I wish I had looked at J frames when I went to go buy my first revolver and not waited so long to get one!

Yes, because the gun stays in my strong hand (right), the cylinder swings to the left, with the strip in my left hand everything stays where it should. If I'm not done reloading, but have to snap it closed to squeeze off a shot, I can do that, quickly. All it takes is practice, and the more often you change the grip on your gun, the more things can possibly go wrong.
