Love my 649 Bodyguard

That is a very nice looking revolver.

Thank you! It's been shot some but carried more than any other gun that I own. It's got "honest wear". Admittedly, it needs a thorough cleaning.

I think the 649 "pre magnum frame" is the best pocket gun ever sold. I don't care what the experts say, I want the single action capability.

I agree. That's exactly why I originally bought it! The hammer shroud and still being able to cock the hammer for single action appealed to me.

Yeppers!

The Model 649 (well any Bodyguard model with shrouded hammer) is the very best J-frame variant. No snag, yet offers both double-action and single-action capabilities. I like having choices.

Mine's not as clean as yours. A kind Smith & Wesson forum member provided me with the older "high-hump" diamond walnut stocks. I was going for that "retro" look. The T-Grip is a certain aid in shooting control and comfort.

bmcgilvray, mine looked similar to yours a couple of grip changes ago! I had a set of diamond magnas on mine but they weren't the high hump. I bought them here from VM. I had the original grips on my 649 for years. They are pretty well worn. I had some Spegels for a while, then the diamond magnas. Just bought the bigmtnman elk stags. I'm a big fan of his grips. Also have them on my Model 10 and 66 snubbies and a 4" Highway Patrolman. :)

Beautiful gun...and my favorite snubbie....

Have one that has an extra fitted cylinder by TK Custom that shoots 9mm and .38 Super...

When carried it is stoked with Buffalo Bore .38 Special +P, either the 158 LSWC-HP-GC or the hardcast...

I bought this 649 in 1995. For 20 years prior to that I carried a blued 49 as my 2nd gun. In 1995 another dept was going from revolvers to autos and selling off their revolvers. They had 3 never issued 649. I was able to get only one. $150. I carried the 649 everyday as my 2nd until I retired in 2006 and still carry it today. I really did not go anywhere without my 649.
After I retired my wife fixed it up a bit I guess thinking that since I retired I would no longer carry it and put it in a display case. It still gets carried.

My EDC is a 49 no dash, that was silver "Metal Life'd" before I bought it. So, it actually looks like a 649. It came with worn smooth goodyear's that I replaced with post diamond wood stocks; my Tyler-T is black. I carry Speer Short Barrel 135's +P, and a 8 round speed strip.

I once used the single action to shoot a raccoon out of a tree: 20 yards straight up! He was looking at me through the Y of branch about 2" wide, got it right between the eyes! I also shot several off the gutter of my home! (I had a 30 year 'coon infestation!)

I traded into a Silver 439 right after the locks started. A major mess. So, I will ALWAYS stick with Blue or Stainless steel!

I completely agree. This Galco horsehide holster makes it perfect in the pocket. It is also one of the ugliest guns ever made.

I think that stainless and stags just look right together. I have a Model 38 that is showing a lot of high edge finish wear. Looking at your 649 makes me want to go with a matte hard chrome and stags.

My first backup gun out of the Academy was a 2in RB M64 but that quickly got uncomfortable to carry in an ankle holster. I then switched over to a M49 that I carried until the first batch of M649's came out (about 1985?). I traded my old M49 in on a brand new M649 and carried that M649 on my annual secondary carry qualification record until I retired in 2006. Upon my retirement, I decided that since I primarily carried a 1911 off duty, I would have no need for my old M649, so I sold it to one of my old retired Sergeants. That is the only gun I've sold that I regret getting rid of. The old M649 rode a lot of miles in a Galco Ankle Glove holster until the snow started building up and I moved it up into a pocket holster in my left front uniform trouser pocket. Great little functional guns with the single action capability, allowed younger eyes to drill holes in the hostage taker 1/2 silhouette target at 25 yards if you really bared down.
