I have a S&W 66-4 357, I had be using 158 HP with 296 powder, a friend is showing me how to cast bullets, it is interesting. I have so much of shotgun powder I use in my 12ga. Blue Dot & Green Dot (Alliant Powder) I got with Alliant about the use of the two powders. Green Dot has many loads for the 38 to 357. Blue Dot only has for the 38sp & +P. My question is, "If I can load 6.3gr of BD for the 38sp+P and 6.1 for the 38sp with a 158 LSWC at 955 fps, can I load this in a 357 case and shoot it in the 357"? It, (book) dose not say. Thanks for your time

Beng, BlueDot is not the best powder to use at the load levels you have listed. I have tried 6 grains in a .38 special case and velocity with a 158LSWC ran 700fps or less. In a .357 case I load 10 grains with the 158LSWC. This is an 1100fps load in a 4" barrel gun. BlueDot is best at higher loading densities. Since you have GreenDot that would be the better choice. I was wondering the same about blue dot and 38sp a couple of months ago because a local dealer had plenty of it on the shelf for what I considered inexpensive but after some research, passed on it. If you end up working out a decent load, I'd appreciate you posting your results.

Here is some late night reading for you.

And I am still trying to find a good use for it.
