I've read about, and had, many issues with M&P 15-22 rifles. My wife & I own two and have had stovepipe issues, misfeed issues, failure to fire (light strike) issues, failure to lock open after last round, etc.

On the advice of our local shop, we started using CCI AR Tactical ammo and most of our issues disappeared. After about 300 rounds through each rifle most of the problems disappeared. I did find that a clean & well lubed action was my best friend. Thorough cleaning and light lube made all the difference in the world.
I'm still experimenting with ammo and will post some opinions after we have a few hundred more rounds through both guns.

I’ve used only Aguila SuperExtra 40gr LRN (mostly because I got it cheap) in my 15-22 with no problems. I have a bunch of CCI Tactical and some CCI Mini Mags that I will run through the rifle at some point in the future.

I use whatever is the cheapest ammo for plinking and I don't have feed, fire, or strike issues with mine. I do field strip and clean it after every shooting session, even if it's only 15 or 20 rounds.

Ditto. I have a closet full of ammo cans stuffed with Federal, Winchester, Remington, Wolf, CCI, Eley, etc. A lot of it, other than my match ammo, is bulk 'shoot'em up' stuff, both HV and SV, RN and HP. My 15-22 eats everything and spits it out with no issues what-so-ever. It's run perfectly since the first day I took it out of the box, field stripped it, cleaned/lubed it, and started shooting it. I do field strip it and clean/lube after ever time I shoot it. I just put a AR Stoner muzzle brake on it yesterday (got it from Midway - $25.00 shipped) and ran close to 200 rds through it. Ran like a top and the MB actually cut what little recoil it has by 50%. It's a blast to shoot!

Keep the answers coming! We haven't been to the range with our rifles in about a month and want to hear your experiences, I scored a 4 digit serial number Model 28 and have been busy with other things lately!
Anyone used CCI Stingers? Federal Match? in their 15-22's?
Thanks for all input

I would steer clear of the CCI Stingers as the casings are a tad longer than STD and HV ammo and could cause you issues. Just this past Sunday I ran about 200 rds through my 15-22. Federal and Remington Golden Bullet. Every shot went 'bang' and the rifle ran perfectly. I have probably close to 1000 rds through this rifle now and have had absolutely Z-E-R-O malfunctions since the day I took it out of the box. (Refer to Post #4).

S & W Model 15-22 rifle

I have had this gun for over two years and I love it. No functioning problems and its one of my grand kids favorites. I have 8 other 22 rifles this is the one that goes to the range with me more often than the others. No ammo problems, although I do like CCI the best.

My 15-22 loves Stingers. It would eat them all the time if possible.

It has various issues with Winchester 555 but it is still what I feed it most often, it is available, cheap and mostly functions. I have various FTFire and FTFeed with it but I'm happy to mark that up to 555 QC, one of the rounds I had had the bullet upside down in the case so I'm not convinced they get it right.

It HATES Geco SV.

It works well with Highland HVHP but I had an OOB with that. No idea if it was gun or ammo, has never done it again through hundreds of Highland and thousands of other brands.

Sellier and Bellot HV, Winchester Super Sub Sonic and Remington Subs are GTG in mine.

I have had excellent reliability from my two 15-22's after I adjusted the ejectors. That adjustment is critical to proper operation. I started out running Federal Automatch but have now standadardized on Eley (CMP bulk) in all my 22's.
Note: I too clean and lube my rifles after each range trip. Cleaning consists of solvent chamber mop followed by one trip of the bore snake and wipe down of the bolt assembly.

Anbody use Armscor 22LR ammo. coated hollow points. Just got my M&P15-22 and tell me your opinions and ideas.

Cannot comment about current stock but a few years back .22LR from that company had serious quality control problems. Several LGS advised me to run CCI and I never regret that choice.

I just plain gave up on Armscore. We were having failure to fire, misfeed issues and my wife had three instances with failure to load where the bullet dislodged from the brass case. Also, it's the dirtiest of the ammo we've been using (Remington, Winchester, CCI, Federal)
My first brick was my last.

we started using CCI AR Tactical ammo

Best choice you could make. The 15-22 was the rifle that CCI used when developing the round.

Don't over-lubricate it, clean the bolt face regularly to avoid build-up (simple rub over with an old tooth-brush works fine) and you'll have endless hours of fun. Enjoy :D

I found that a nylon brush isn’t enough sometimes for the bolt face and had to resort to using a wooden tooth pick or a plastic pick. Some of the lube used on 22 rounds is pretty waxy and wouldn’t come off otherwise.

That's why I like the CCI ammo. It's a lot cleaner than most, meaning more banging and less brushing :D:D:D

Your'e right though. A few toothpicks in the range-bag will always be handy little tools.

I run CCI Mini Mag exclusively (buy in bulk when on sale) and it's been rock solid. I tried Thunderbolt ammo once and I would get at least one stove pipe per mag.. Seemed pretty dirty too.
