I just purchased the M&P 15-22 about a week ago and have not had the chance to shoot it yet, but have been reading the forums about the extractor problems and wondering if S&W has been doing the mods on new shipments and maybe I wouldn't have any problems. While looking over my owners manual I noticed a star that was stamped on very back and couldn't help to wonder if this was some sort of indication that S&W had completed the needed mods on it. One can only hope.... I can't wait to actually shoot it and start my accessories.:D

Congrats on your 15-22. Don't know about the star.

Might be a good idea to check the location of your ejector before shooting the gun.

Mine just came in the week prior to Christmas and it has a blue star also. I noticed that it had been test fired. It's been too cold to fire it yet.

I just want to know what EXACTLY these mods are besides the obvious moving extractor a little bit or replacing the ejector.( or vice versa ) Mine is back from smith the extractor does appear to be thicker and darker. Also, It appears the feed ramp was polished.

I just picked up mine two days ago and it also has a star stamped on the back mine is red. Looking at the gun it looks like it has been adjusted already has a gap and looks like it could not be adjusted anymore without hitting the bolt. Ill let you guys know after I shoot it today.

No stamp on mine. I got it a couple weeks ago. Shot 500 round through it so far without a single problem.

Speaking of ejectors. Mine rides (touches) on the top edge of the magazine. How about others?

S&W is pretty tight lipped on what they do to the guns, other than say "upgraded to current specs"

How about a pic or two of your gun since it got back from Smith. Show the thicker extractor and polished feed ramp so we can compare.

The star is a curiosity. Maybe someone at S&W was just in the holiday spirit. :p

No star on mine! Bought back in Sept. and had to make trip back to S&W for repair. Maybe star is a QA check?????

I took some pics of mine and it appears the star means it has been updated to new specs. The extractor looks like it is now designed more inward and does not appear to have been manually tweaked. I'm not sure about the feed ramp being polished. I had to take about 60 pics to get some good ones in focus and with enough light to see.

Good pics. Thanks for the time and post.

maybe the star means it updated already just got back from the range 170 rd no FTE,one stove pipe due to impatient loading only got one 10 rd mag:mad: shot great, I loved it, my ejector is closer to the bolt than the one in your pic. my ramp looks unpolished.

My instruction manual has a red star, and the ejector appears to be the same as GillAgin's. It's been to cold to get to the range yet, but will post results as soon as I get a chance to shoot the thing. Sorry for the blurry pic, but I was in a hurry to include a photo with this post.

I've got the star on mine. Only problems I've had was when I either didn't load the mag properly or my fingers caught the loading tab while I was shooting.

great info thanx to those who took the time to post pics... very helpful

Red star on mine. Bought on Monday after Christmas. It was their last 15-22 in stock.

From the factory, my ejector is even closer to the middle than the photos above. About a card-width from the middle "rail."

After about 250 rounds in two different shooting sessions, about four days apart, I haven't had a single FTE. In the first session I had two or three FTF but in the second session (about 150 rounds) we had zero problems, even with a couple of rapid-fire mags.

And in the second session, I did make a point to load the clips correctly and to load 23 or 25 rounds. I don't know for sure if these made a difference on the feeding but I definitely did not pay attention to my mag loading (full 25 rounds too) during the first session.

I'm very satisfied with my purchase.
