Thinking seriously about getting into the AR world and am drawn to the OR Sport II but am wondering about the one with the included CT red/green dot. Folks that own one, are you happy with it, or would I best served by a different optic. It’s going to be a defense rifle for generally non-rifle shooting people. I’d be thankful for any knowledgeable options since I’m ignorant of the AR platform and red dot sights both. Thanks!

A real, combat proven red dot, like say a Leupold, Aimpoint, Trijicon, Eotech - Will cost you about the cost of the rifle, maybe more.

The popular consumer red dots, like say a SIG Romeo 5 or a Vortex Strikefire, run in the $150 range, and work for most folks reliably.

I have no experience with the CT version, but based on price, I would say they are in the consumer class.

I use consumer grade scopes and electronics on many of my rifles and handguns with complete satisfaction. That said, my one "serious use" AR wears a Trijicon.

If price is a consideration, I have 5 firearms now with the SIG Romeo 5 red dot on them, and have been very happy with the performance, reliability and features (motion activated power on and off) for the $$.

Buy an Aimpoint PRO. Fantastic dot sight for the money.

If your only going to use it as a house gun, just leave the Aimpoint on, and change the battery around every 3 years.

Aimpoint on the bottom, Vortex Crossfire II up top. I keep the Vortex on my AR with a dedicated 22 upper.

I bought an MP Sport2 OR model with CT 103 red/green dot from factory. The dot holds zero, but everytime I put it on Green mode, it switches back to Red color dot under recoil of rifle. I put a Vortex Spitfire on it, fixed 3x with etched, graduated reticle. I haven't had a chance to sight it in yet, but it seems heavy duty and built a LOT better than the CT optic that came on rifle.

It’s a consumer grade red dot on a consumer grade AR.

Solid package for most peoples needs and a good value at around $600.
