I want to start a poll to see what different types of ammo have gone off before entering the breech. The cases have to be blown open before entering the breech to enter your brand.
Please post pictures too thanks.

Here is a picture of my blown Winchester case.

I had problems with Remmington but did not blow up like this. I had this exact explosion (exact same pic) within 4 rounds using Winchester wildcats 40 grain. My gun is back at S&W for repair. Will post their return paperwork notes. I'll also be interested to see if they change out my springs to the new blue coated editions. This is my second time returning.

Add me to the club.

The first time was with Win Expert Hi Velocity.....ruptured case and awol extractor.

I sent it in and got it fixed and have since fired hundreds if not over a thousand rounds with federal bulk. I wanted to see if it would function with the Win 333 stuff, so I load a clip and get about 3/4 the way through it and KABOOM!!!! there goes the extractor.....Mad is an understatement.

The case was turned into shrapnel, the extractor spring and pin were still in the gun. I was shooting on a concrete pad so I got a magnet and found the extractor. After a thorough inspection, I put the extractor assembly back in the bolt and ran a clip of trusty federal 550 through it and it functioned without a hiccup!

I think Winchester uses softer, thinner brass and is prone to rupture in these rifles. DO NOT USE WINCHESTER!!!!

DING DING DING, we have a winner. i cant make people understand that ammo is different and some dont work right and some do, but maybe if people keep posting things like this it will pursuade them a little ;)

What ever happened to none, never or not yet. Stats. are meaningless if you don't include the entire spectrum.

??? not understanding what you are saying here, we have tons of threads about good working ammo this man had some winchesters blow up and was wondering how many others had the same problem. i told him that the winchesters werent working properly for most people but he wanted to make sure because in his eyes all rimfire ammo is the same or should work the same in this gun, and I agree that it SHOULD work the same but the sad truth is that it doesnt. read on down a few pages and you will find the other thread/poll.

You may be on to something there!

And maybe when they crimp the bullet into the brass case, the case might bulge a little because of the thinner brass. Causing the bullet to not seat fully into the chamber. Which leaves about a 1/16 inch of the brass not pushed all the way in the barrel chamber. And when you pull the trigger, POW!

Might be time to pull my mic out and check a few bullets. Hmmm another project. just what I need.. LOL

I had 2 OOB with Eley Sport ammo. Both cases looked identical to the picture above.

No news here. If you want to reduce the odds of an OOB and enjoy your shooting time with the 15-22... use Fed or CCI.

Perhaps the 'blue spec' rifle will prove to be more accommodating to a wide variety of ammo. Until then... happy shooting with the cheapest .22lr ammo there is-- Fed Value Pack.

Problem is, sometimes its hard to find federal or cci's. Hopefully the ammo situation will get back to normal soon. I notice now 9mm ammo is getting more readly available.

Practice ammo is getting cheaper. Dick's has the UMC .38, 9mm and 45ACP 250 packs on sale. I reload pistol ammo but if it gets much cheaper maybe I won't. At $30-40/1k primers, $100+/1k bullets, and $20+/powder, I'm not that far away. But it's my man cave.... and that's priceless. :D

ahh i had thought about starting reloading but after looking at some of the prices after i buy the equipment, figure in the aggravation of my buddies harassing me for free ammo, the price of primers/bullets/powder..... i figured it wasnt worth it
