You may be on to something there!
And maybe when they crimp the bullet into the brass case, the case might bulge a little because of the thinner brass. Causing the bullet to not seat fully into the chamber. Which leaves about a 1/16 inch of the brass not pushed all the way in the barrel chamber. And when you pull the trigger, POW!
Might be time to pull my mic out and check a few bullets. Hmmm another project. just what I need.. LOL
Finally an explantion, thanks for those of us who are not serious gun fans and DON'T just see the obvious. I'm so tired of reading rants complaining S&W made a POS etc. I did my research and love this particular gun. The only other true choices both have problems (check the forums for the Sig and the colt).
It sounds like it might not be completely S&W's fault. Here are some general questions related to this type of malfunction:
- I wonder how this is overcome in other gun models e.g. my ruger mkII seems to eat anything with the worst problem a failure to fire.
- Would the design on a rifle need to give a bit of slop to allow a pinched bullet to still completely seat?
- If this is the reason for OOBs would this become less an issue as the gun wars wearing the entrance opening wider ove time?
BTW, I didn't try to remove the bullet in my OOB when I sent it back last week, I'm not sure if it was stuck in the barrel. After this I wonder if they will deny the warranty claim based on bad ammo.
