I retired from LE in December 2022 and had no intention of working again. Almost 3 years of staying at home with nothing to do made me crazy. My wife suggested a part-time for two reasons: 1) Get me out of the house *and her hair,* and 2) Give me some spending money that I don't have to justify blowing.

I ended up getting a part-time at a local mom & pop gunstore. 2 - 3 days a week. One if the perks is that after 90 days, I can buy 4 guns a year, " at cost!"

Initially I didn't think much of that benefit, but for some reason I started wanting a 10mm...really bad.

I asked my boss what M&P was available in 10mm and he found a package deal that has the full-sized M&P 2.O (4.6" barrel), 4 magazines and an OWB holster for less than just the pistol and 2 mags. Of course it's on available backorder though, but he ordered the package for me.

I can't use my benefit until November, so if it takes two months for them to fill the order, that's still fine. If it turns out that the package is not available, I'll get the gun & order 2 more mags and they'll arrive at the store in 3 days or less.

I've been doing a lot of research on what ammo I should carry (I plan on EDCing the 10) as well as the M&P 2.0 itself. I've seen a bunch of people having FTF issues with the 10 specifically 2 - 3 years ago, with 'heavy loaded' ammunition, but more recently, I've seen that a fair amount of people have cured these problems by using a 24# recoil spring (replacing the stock 17# spring) and using heavier magazine springs.

The issue seems that the recoil of the heavy loads causes the slide to move too rapidly and violently for the stock mag springs to keep up. But those using "light" or "watered down" loads don't seem to have these issues.

Thoughts?

Wait 'til it is in, pick a variety (1-200 of each of ... 10?) of duty/carry ammo, and shoot the snot out of so you have a baseline of function before you mess with it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. There may be a round or two you prefer; if so, get a few hundred of each instead, but get at least 1000 rounds down range before you mess with anything.

You MIGHT want to shoot 200 rounds of ball to start the wearing in process for less money; I've done that, but real testing needs to be done with serious ammo.

That is the gun I carry daily, except mine is in a shoulder rig carrying two offside mags. I use 180 gr. FMJ for practice JHP for carry. I've never had a FTF. Only problem I had was the slide didn't lock back after last round was fired. A good cleaning and lubing of mag and lock seemed to take care of that. I hope this helps.

Don - That sounds like the package that was around a few years ago during a promo. I had been thinking of getting the M&P in 10 and that promo made me move on it. I have about 200 rds thru mine with a few different ammo types with no issues. I have stuck with standard 180 gr factory loads and have not tried any of the heavier or specialty loads from Underwood or others. I did put a Holosun RDS on mine, based on info from this forum. It was at that time, the only pistol I owned which had the ability to mount that type of sight. I really like it as a range pistol, but for me it's too large to carry regularly. I'll say the spare mags were a bonus, the holster itself is decent for a range use (and for my needs) but I'm sure there are better options if you plan to EDC the M&P. Best of luck with it! I plan on putting 200 rds (at least) of 180 ball through it the day I get it. I only researched where to FIND the upgraded springs in case I have that issue, but I haven't seen any videos LESS than a year old that even mention FTFs, so it may not even be an issue anymore.

I found the Dawson Precision sights I want (low profile, fiber optic) and there was one video that mentioned the stock "optics ready" sights are horrible for snagging during a draw. They aren't one of our store's vendors, so my boss is looking to see if he can order them (I'll also be able to buy anything in store at store cost), so even though they aren't really expensive, I might be able to get them a few dollars cheaper.

The carry ammo I'm looking at runs from 155 gr to 180 gr, with Underwood & Buffalo Bore in the lead as they are significantly hotter than most others, that seem to be loaded to .40 S&W levels instead of full 10 mm. I blame the guy from the YouTube Channel "Tools&Targets," because he's a "full power, 10 mm snob," and he's done most of the videos I've seen, plus he always uses ballistic gel testing with a heavy clothing barrier. Which in my opinion is better than bare gel, since there's a 99% chance that if I have to shoot someone (God forbid), they won't be naked and hollow points getting clogged by clothing is a real thing.

My shop also makes custom kydex/leather holsters and the first thing I'm doing is making an IWB holster. I have a large frame, and have successfully concealed a S&W 645, a Beretta 92FS and a Glock 21. My M&P 9c has +3 mag extensions, so it's about the same as a full-sized M&P top of slide to mag base, and the barrel is only an inch longer in the full-sized M&P. Not too difficult for me to CC.

Tell us a bit about what you will be (I assume) protecting yourself from.
If no bruins, moose, elk or large hogs there is no need to find a heavy, full power SWC that runs.
The 220gr SWC with a large meplat are the ones I heard of with issues. A few were redesigned. Some 10mm shooters limit their loads to 200gr max for that reason. The heavy and hot loads are the ones that benefit most from a stronger recoil spring.
Loads like the Winchester Silvertip and Sig V-Crown work well and aren't watered down as much as some. They still pack enough oomph to deal with winter clothes.
