Recently purchased a M&P 2.0 9mm. Well, in process anyway.... hope to have it by the end of this week.

Here in the Great White North we're not permitted to carry at all, so this will be strictly be a target and competition pistol only.

What's everyone's choice on ammo weight? 115g,124,147?? Son and I reload our own and just curious what people have found works best for them, be it factory load or hand load.

I have carried the Speer Gold dot 124 +P JHP for years; first, as an issued duty load and then in my personal off-duty and now retirement guns. Very effective round and has never given me any feeding problems in any of my 9mm handguns. However, the FBI has designated a heavier bullet weight for their 9mm duty weapons. I'm not averse to trying a heavier round.

On my full size 9, 9c, and PC Shield in 9 (all 1.0’s) i only run 115fmj for my range and practice ammo. I hit where I want, in decent groupings anyway, in the 7-15 yd range so that grain has worked for me. Worked well enough that it didnt pay to bother with other grain.
I use the combat sight picture on those 3, cant say if different ammo would alter that any.

Much of the enjoyment of purchasing a new gun is trying out various brands/weights/types of ammo to see which works best for you. So buy a bunch of different ammo types and do your own experimenting. It's fun and educational!

That said, my personal 9mm target ammo favorite is Winchester NATO 124 grain. It's affordable, reliable, and accurate. But don't just take my word for it, do your own testing.

Congratulations on your new M&P!

9mm Luger - Fiocchi Ammo Blessing

I really like :D Fiocchi :D ammo. Last year I ordered ~2k rounds of their 147JHP for my 9mm M2.0 4-1/4in. They chrono'd well at 988fps w Std/Dev of 7.0 for a clip of 17rd. AND THEY ARE INEXPENSIVE (not cheap). If you buy a 1,000rd lot you get it for $0.27 per round! This is quality ammo, and consistent in performance.

Fiocchi Shooting Dynamics Ammunition 9mm Luger 147 Grain Jacket Hollow Point Box of 50

I use it in my .38 & .357s AND THEN RELOAD THEM with XTP bullets. Doing the SAME with these Fiocchi 9mm Luger 147JHPs as well! This is a great deal IMO!
NOTE: I do not work for these folks, nor have any investment in them. I am just sold on how well this ammo performs at such a great price.

Since this is to be only a range gun and not self defense and you reload I would suggest checking out Donnie Summers at Summers Enterprises. I really like his Hi-Tek coated bullets and his prices are very good. Have fun with that new 9mm.

Thanks so much for all your replies. Much appreciated.

I'm going to start with 124g and adjust from there. I have a 9mm Carbine that really performs well with 115g but I don't think that is necessary in a pistol. My son was loading 124g and just recently switched to 147g in his CZ Shadow. He is really happy with it's performance with a middle of the road powder load. I will try some of those as well and see how it works. And we have been loading these exclusively so far: h ttps://campro.ca/en/ (not sure about posting links here so take the space out) These are the only ones available at our LGS. Not sure what else is available.. might have to look around and see. A friend of mine casts his own bullets.... not sure if we're ready to go down that road just yet.

As for the target shooting, we shoot bullseye, and 3 gun. Bullseye is about 50' and 3 gun is whatever it is when they set it up. Different every time. Paper targets, some steel, and clays usually.

ALL of my 9mms from micro to macro, prefer 124s. 115s will do okay, but 124s seem to do better.
This is in HK P7s, Kahr cm-9s, all sizes of Glocks, Sig 365s, and my M&P 2.0 Compact )4")

I'm with 1 OZ, all my M & P's are prefer the 124 gr meal case for accuracy over the 115 gr pills .....................

Well, finally got to take delivery of my new toy today. Put about 50 rnds of 124 thru it. Started to experience some stove pipes. I'm planning on giving it a thorough clean and lube before I take it out again. Overall, I'm satisfied with it. A completely different animal from my Victory 22, but I'm sure I will adapt with time.

Seem to have gotten rid of the stove pipes and FTE's. Using 124g with a heavy powder load. Winchester231 4.4g of powder. So far, I'm liking it.. who knows, with enough practice I might even start hitting the center of the target. :)

Start with a variety of rounds in different weights, at least 200 of each and preferably 500. For your purposes, I would use ball, of course. Get some data under your belt about what the pistol prefers. Within most of my experiences, I am not good enough to find a real differences, but there could be outliers that show that YOUR pistol has preferences.

Went out this afternoon and put about 100rnds 124g thru it and 10 147g as well with no issues. Other than the brass ejecting towards me that I mentioned in another thread. My son was shooting the 147g loads and they seemed to work pretty good for me. I might switch to that weight for a bit and see what happens.

My long time family practice & fun load for 9mm is Hi-tek coated 124gr swc from Missouri bullets and 4.2gr of hp-38/w231 runs accurate too as it turns out . In my wifes apex barreled m&p 4.25 core 1.1" 10 shot fired 25 groups from a well supported rest from this old man and a 3moa venom optic . Might shoot even better with better young eye sight . I have shoot 150 coated swc & coated 160gr from Buyou bullets too and I like each one but that's a looong way with to ship bullets .

When hand loading for Duty/combat style 9MM auto loaders I tend to stay near the NATO specs.

So that is a 124/125 grain projectile loaded to what SAAMI would call +P pressure levels.

If your loading manuals up there use CIP as the pressure standard, then you will be just right

I am not sure what your powder choices are in Canada, but on the NATO 9MM loads I am currently using 231 as my powder

In my M&P's I run 115gr in Range and SD ammo. It works well. I mostly use WWB for range and Hornady Critical Defense for SD carry ammo.

For FMJ range ammo, I use 115gr simply because it is less expensive than the heavier bullets. For SD/HD I keep them loaded with 124 gr HPs.
