Is it possible to freely interchange the 9mm barrel with the 10mm frame?
I know the tolerances are close enough for the extractor and ejector for practice purposes, but I am curious if the barrel hoods and such are similar enough to work.

Also if that doesn't work, will a 9mm slide fit on a 10mm frame and function?

I'm looking to have a freely shootable combination.

Thanks for your checks and input.

Even if you could change the barrel or slide, would a 10mm magazine work with 9mm rounds? Guessing that there will be issues with the feed lips possibly being too wide, and getting the shorter 9mm round to feed because of the angles and distance if you use a 10mm magazine, and the 9mm magazine would be loose in the frame.

Just as a reference, here's an empty 10mm case next to a dummy 9mm round I use for setting up dies in my press.

The initial word was that the 10 mm was going to be on the .45 frame. That being the case, the 9 mm slide isn't gonna fit on the frame. While it's apples to oranges, I just compared a 5906 and 1006 frames and the location of the recoil abutments is very different, but that also included different slide lengths.

If the 10 is on a .45 frame, I'd expect the barrels will be different due to differing frame sizes. Due to cartridge length, the mag well will be different than that of the 9/.40 frame. While there are 9 mm 1011s, the magazines for all calibers have the same external dimensions and an internal spacer at the rear is needed to put the shorter 9 mm round where the slide will pick it up.

Sooner or later someone may come up with a conversion barrel. Someone on here made a run of .40 barrels for the 1000 series guns a few years back. Pay the money. Ditto for the magazines.

I carried an issue 10 mm 1006 for 14 years and really don't understand the enthusiasm for the round.

9mm works in .40 magazines. This has already been established. 10mm is just a longer parent case to the .40. Also previously established. They share the same reloading dies.

I'm looking specifically at the M&P 2.0. Did I post this in the wrong section? All of the comparison to the earlier models is irrelevant. I wasn't interested in anecdotes, supposition, or oranges and apples. The 1006 was an awkward gun of low quality. Thank you for your time.

I had read that they had made much of the parts interchangeable in the 2.0 and was curious either respect to the sear blocks and trigger parts across 9, 40, and 45. As this is the great den of S&W knowledge, I was hoping someone who owned both a 9mm and 10mm in M&P 2.0 could take a pair of calipers and measure this or already knew this. If not I'll just carry mine to the LGS next time.

Check here: Shop | KKM

I have confirmed that KKM makes a .40S&W-to-9mm barrel for the M&P 2.0. It may be that this same barrel works with a true 10mm M&P 2.0. Shoot KKM an email and ask them. They responded promptly to my querry.

The interesting thing there is that the the 1.0 M&P was the same slide face cut for both the 9 and .40. Has this been verified that there is a different cut width on the 2.0 between 9 and .40?

While the 10 and .40 have the same case head diameter, there's a length issue. Per the Latest American Handgunner, the 10 frame is longer than the 9/.40 frame by 0.070 in at the mag well. Reach to trigger is 1/4 inch longer. It's not the same frame/mag as the 9/.40.

While they may have made many of the 1.0 and 2.0 parts interchangeable, there are a number of parts on the .45 that are different from those used in the 9/.40/.357. IIRC, locking blocks, sear housing block, trigger bar and striker are different, there may well be other differences. The blocks were confirmed different from a S&W parts list. I only checked those because they relate directly to the barrel/slide/frame fit.

Post $5 has a very good idea and should spare you a trip.
