Just got the original Shield yesterday and put it next to the compact 4".
I always wondered how much different they are in terms of size and height.
With 8 round magazine, Shield same height as the 4" compact.
The rear slights are narrower so it's hard to see gaps in between.
Maybe night/glowing sights help.
Shield shoots little high but that maybe just me with new gun.
I only tried th 8 round magazine and it feels pretty good.
Also, the magazines don't flush completely and have little bit gap.

Here are the pictures, lots of them to compare with 8 round and 7 round magazines with 4" compact.
Cell phone camera so nothing professional. ;)

As you can see, Shield's rear sights are closer together:

I have exactly those same two guns. The Compact works well in the winter when I wear a sweatshirt over it but the Shield is better for warm weather with just a t-shirt over it. I had the Shield first and thought the Compact might be too heavy for carry but I got used to it pretty quick.

I think I shoot the Compact slightly better but not really a significant difference. I also don't see as much difference in the recoil as I thought I would. They are both really nice guns.

Nice job on the photos they were pretty informative. I love the original Shield and its close to perfection the way it is to me and for $200 with a long and short magazine I can't believe everybody doesn't own one. If people want more capacity then switching to a gun the size of the Glock 19 or M&P compact is still very easy to conceal under a loose shirt and several guns in that category would fill the bill but I would love a M&P 4" compact with thumb safety.

I have those exact two guns also, but I never carry the 2.0 Compact. The Shield is thin and light. The Compact is in a whole other weight class. Yeah, it has more rounds, but I don't feel outgunned with the Shield, at all.

I thought at first the Compact might be too big and heavy but it didn't take long at all to feel comfortable with it and I'm a small guy. It's not so much that I feel outgunned with the Shield but I do shoot the Compact a little better and it feels really good in my hands.

Of course now when I carry the Shield it feels like I'm not carrying anything at all.

Same two guns I have. Yet to carry the compact since I am waiting on a holster and decided for now to put a TLR-7 on the front of it and it is my new nightstand gun. When my holster comes in I will see how I like to carry it. When carrying the Shield I almost forget I have it on me.

Just my opinion, my original Shield 9 is a sub-compact. My original 9c w/3.6" bbl is a compact and my M&P 9 w/4.25" bbl is a Full Size. Seems to me, a 4" bbl is more FS than compact. This is just my observation. I'm happy that we all have so many choices, the new compact 4" just doesn't seem to offer me anything I don't already have. :-)

Trigger/barrel movement on the shield...

Compared to Compact, the shield's barrel moves when trigger clicks.
I can press the trigger slowly and compact's barrel move is insignificant but shield's barrel jerks slightly.
Is it because small frame and short barrel?

Nice pics! I have a Shield 1.0 and a 2.0 4" .40cal on the way now. Didn't buy the .40 to carry but mainly as a stash gun in my basement. Thanks again for the pictures.

I also have both. Love them both. I carry the Shield 95% of the time. Just recently got a good IWB holster for the 2.0 Compact, so maybe that will change.

Thank you for this post, the comparison I've been looking for. I've been considering the 2.0 Compact though not sure if I want the 4 or 3.6 inch barrel.

Here's a pic of my Compact M 2.0 3.6" along with the Shield M 2.0 (both 9mm if that makes any difference to you), and, M&P .380 Bodyguard for comparison. Hope this helps you a little. ;)

What iwb kydex holster is good for shield?
I looked at alien gear with leather back but it's huge.
Don't want to cover half of my waist with holster.

I have several of Foxx Holsters' Little Foxx IWB Hybrid and am happy with them.

I really like foxtrotconcealment IWB in Kydex. I have one for every semi auto I own. Price is really decent too! FYI, the steel belt clip is more secure than the nylon. I also order with 15 degree forward cant, so he drills it for both. He ships really fast! And, the slide is completely covered with all I have ordered form him.
