I was a little dismayed when I picked up my M&P 10mm, and it came in a cardboard box. I really like the plastic foam lined Case all 3 of my other M&Ps came in. I was hoping it would be just like my 45 case..

Does smith sell just a case? Or am I going to have to resort to eBay and hope I get what they are advertising?

I've bought a few S&W cases from Midway USA, but they are blue and not black. Ebay may be your best bet or post a Wanted to Buy ad on the forum.

I thought the same thing: "Cheap cardboard box instead of plastic box?".

Luck of the draw for me. I've had 5 M&P's over the years. 3 came in plastic box, 2 in cardboard.

Anyway, I've seen boxes for sale in ebay and gunbroker

I too have had a mix of plastic and corrugate for my MP's; sure the plastic one is nicer but for me it's ok either way. Mine are only used on the way home from the gun shop; after that they're tossed into a tote to store should I sell a gun someday. But otherwise I don't use mine for storage or travel.

Personally I never use the cases that come with a pistol, so a box that saves a few dollars really doesn't bother me. The plastic ones that do come with something really are not that great, and end up in the closet with the boxes.

When going to the range I prefer a single large case with multiple pistols v.s. moving multiple single gun cases.

I bought one of the first M&P .40 full-size pistols available in my area years ago, and of the 9 M&P pistols I've owned it is the only one that came in a hard plastic case. And, while I agree that the plastic cases are nicer, I really don't mind the cardboard boxes as I don't use either of them for anything other than resale value if I decide to trade or sell at a future date. I nearly bought an old cardboard box from a model 638 yesterday at an antique shop for $2.50. It included the factory paperwork and the keys for the internal lock. I was only considering it as a spare to keep around for the one used Smith I own that didn't come with a factory box. I ultimately decided that it wasn't worth it for me to spend $2.50 for a cardboard box.

I'd had bought it. Key worth that.

I have a box from a 1974 S&W 15-3 I bought at a tag sale I'm going to resell.

One can't purchase much for $2.50 nowadays....I think that was a really good deal. You could easily double your money with a resale...think of all the profit!
