Hello all . New to firearms and have some questions.
My wife ordered an M&P C calibered in 22 and I bought some low Velocity ammo for her. Today we were told that might not be strong enough to cycle the pistol. Anybody have a experience with L.V. ammo and the M&P C?I have a 45 !(!! and hope to get a 22 cal. slide kit when they become available so this is for both the wife and I.
Thanks in advance.

The best way to find out is to load it up and go to the range. The 22 Compact is designed to be a suppressor gun, so your subsonic ammo should work. The worst that can happen is that you have to cycle the gun manually. The ammo won't hurt the gun.

My guess is that you're more likely to have trouble with that ammo in the 45 conversion.

A general rule of thumb for .22 ammo that will cycle semi-autos is .40 grn w/1200 FPS + velocity (as written on the box).

I primarily use Federal Auto Match bulk boxes.

Thanks for the replies. If the cycling is the only issue then we can deal with it manually or toss / donate the ammo.

I have an M&P Compact 22 with a threaded barrel and silencer. CCI Quiet would not cycle it but with Eley subsonic it has been flawless.

An additional thought on ammo ... having shot the remainder of my CCI Standard (40 grain lead round nose, ~1070 FPS), as a matter of course I now only shoot copper plated / poly coated ammo in my 22s. I've found this makes cleaning the barrels a snap as "leading" is no longer an issue.

The only issues were that CCI Quiet 40-gr RNL will not cycle the action (when you see the numbers, you'll see why) ...

The chrono data:

CCI 40-gr Quiet lead solid
M 598.9/S 40.23/D 18.94 - these would not cycle the action

WOW! That CCI Quiet is really slow! (300 fps slower than their spec). No wonder it wouldn't cycle.

Nice work, Erich, and I'll bet you had a lot of fun doing it.

You didn't mention the brand of your low velocity ammo. How about you at least tell us the muzzle velocity posted on the box.

And let us know how it works out on the range.

Thanks - of course, their specifications were almost certainly quoted from rifle-length barrel tests.
