M&P 22 Compact WTB Barrel Nut

Hey everyone, Just bought my first M&P 22 Compact and it came with a thread adapter installed instead of the barrel nut, or thread protector. As everyone knows, to remove the slide the thread adapter must be also removed. I do not want to take the chance of damaging the threads on the barrel and want to buy a barrel nut to use for this process. I called Customer Service and was told they would sell me one for $20 plus S/H. I think this is way too much money to spend for something that should have been included with the gun to start with. My question is: does anyone have an extra barrel nut/thread protector they would be willing to part with for a good price. Thanks and Happy Holidays to all!
