M&P 22 or other Smith 22

What are the two others you are comparing, the page isn't loading, or at least not very fast.

I have a S&W M&P22, S&W 622 and a S&W 317 Kit Gun. All good guns. The revolver is the best of the bunch but comes with a huge sticker shock.

I've got an M&P 22 and am quite pleased with it. Good shooter, rarely a problem despite what I put into it ammo-wise. It's also a a good way to practice trigger control/ sight picture when I move over to my M&P 9. Close enough ergonomicly, etc. to translate over.
They are all S&W so you really can't go too wrong.

I have a 22a 5.5" barrel. It's a great little shooter! Bought it the day after I bought my 15-22. It eats Federal bulk 550 and CCI blazer great. It's my second best shooter, first is the MKII Ruger. But I can still hit my 3" targets with regularity at 25 yrds using the 22a.

Field strip it no comparison between the Smith and Ruger. Lock slide back on smith, release barrel with your thumb and lift off, then remove slide. piece of cake.

They have MANY variations of the 22a, flat side, bull barrel, fat wooden grips (they feel great!). Mine is the basic 22a. I want another with a bull barrel.

I've owned both the M&P22 and the 22a. Both are good guns but the M&P22 hands down. It feels just like a full size m&p where the 22a is kind of odd feeling and looking. Both are very reliable with any ammo I used.

Each have their intended purpose. The 22a is skewed more towards a target pistol, much like the 22/45 Ruger and the Browning Buckmark or Berreta Neos.

The 22a is going to be more accurate, while the M&P22 is going to have that cool look and feel of it's full sized cousins.

That odd looking 22a is designed for a variety of sight systems for the target shooters. It's also considerably less, if money is an issue. A person could almost buy 5K rounds of 22 ammo for the price difference.

BTW, I also have a Berreta Neos, the 22a is a MUCH better functioning pistol than the neos. In my case, more accurate as well. Magazines seem to feed a lot better in the 22a than they do in the Neos.

I think the Neos is the 4.5" barrel version, which could account for the accuracy difference though.

I've got a model 41, but haven't found a M&P22 yet since Express cancelled my order for a new M&P22 for $289...

I have the Neos now and trying to sell it just cause I want a Smith. Mine has the 6" barrel though.

Cheapest I've seen the M&P22 for was a dealer from Protection KS, at a gun show in Wichita, 345.00. Most everyone else is 379 and up, as high as 439! That's just insane, only 20 bucks less than I paid for my 40c!

I wouldn't mind having one, but even the 345 couldn't sway me. Hoping some time they'll get to the 300 range.

I have an M&P22 and to date have put 700+ rounds through it with NO issues at all!!! I have used CCI, Federal ammo. It's a GREAT gun!!!!! Highly recommended.

I don't have any of the three, but I as far as aesthetics, the M&P 22 wins. In fact I have been looking for one. I have a 2206 and a 41. If the M&P shoots as well as my other two then it's a winner.

I carry and M&P 9c and was thinking about the M&P22; but have a question. With the M&P being a DA and the M&P22 being a SA; does the switching back and forth cause any difficulties readjusting to the DA of the M&P9c?

Have had the 22A 5.5" for 6 weeks and not real happy using variety of ammo. As an example, at the range today and 90 rounds shot with:

1. 5 FTL round not fully extracted from barrel or shell caught in slide sideways
2. 2 FTF could just be bad rounds
3. 1 Shell ejected & next round not loaded

I am going to shoot another 300 and, if the same, send it back. The recoil spring may be the problem or the spring tension on the trigger.

If I had the extra money, then I'd buy the M&P 22.

I think you already know the answer. The first shot is gonna be way different. Also, the 9c grip frame prolly would have a bit of difference as well. The only 22 trainer in this price range with a DA/SA trigger pull is the SIG Mosquito. I have both and the Mosquito is a tad bit smaller in the grip frame and may be a better match to your 9c. I don't have a 9c to compare it to. There have been alot of complaints about the Mosquito, but it's been in production for a number of years and most, if not all the bugs have been worked out. SIG is quite adamant in it's requirement of using CCI Minimags. User experience bears this out. So, while I only have about 100 rounds thru each, the M&P22 eats my 15 year old Federal bulk pack and I'm afraid to use anything but CCI Minimags in the SIG until I have about 200-500 round thru it. So, for a careful shopper, both guns can easily be had for $350, The M&P22 may not fulfull your mission to have a 9c trainer but, the Mosquito might, it'll just be picky about ammo at first.

P.S. I have had no problems of any kind with either gun so far. I don't expect any either.

Well got rid of the Neos today so maybe the M&P 22 will be in my hands soon. I also picked up a Remington 870 Express Pump 12ga for a $150 tax included at a local gun sale. It shoots like a dream.

Little off topic, but as you mentioned about the Sig, you don't have any problems, but you are doing what you are supposed to do with it.

Can't count the number of times I see people say the Sig says to use the mini mags, yet they insist on trying out the cheap stuff to no avail, then complain about the pistol. Reminds me of the people with the 15-22 and the ammo list included that is not recommended to use, yet people still try to use it (Remmington Golden bullets....) and start thread after thread about how the gun fails to fire or eject....

You just want to hand those people their sign.....
