Just recently purchased an M&P 22 full size and have about 200 rounds through her. I was cleaning the pistol this evening after shooting at the range today when i noticed the roll pin on the slide worked its way out about a 1/4 inch. Should I attempt to try an knock it back in with a punch or should I send it back to Smith & Wesson? Attached is a picture.

Not the best picture but you can see where the roll pin backed out.

I'd push it back in, if it comes out again maybe give Smith a call and see what they recomend.

Up to you.

You could tap it back in, and double check after the next range session.

Alternate is to call CS, and ask. They will likely ask you to send it back, and they pay for the shipping. You'll be out the use for a couple of weeks.

So the question is this - do I take the effort to flag a quality issue so others in the future don't have the same problem? Or do I patch it and keep shooting?

I'm a CS guy in real life, so would send it back. Smith CS hears from me a lot.

I would just tap it back in with something that wont mar the finish on your gun... See if you can buy a replacement pin and keep it on hand , just in case... BEFORE you tap it in , if you have access to a good set of calipers on a micrometer , take a measurement of the pin to find out the diameter, and perhaps you can locate a new pin locally instead of getting it through S&W.

Punch it back in. Your local ACE hardware should carry a replacement if it continues to back out. It would be a lot faster than sending it back to the mother ship.

Well I am going to bring it back to the place I purchased the pistol. They will probably tell me it is not their problem and to take it up with the MFG. I was going to attempt to drive the pin back into position but I fear if something goes wrong I might void the warranty or mar the finish. Best if I let professionals deal with this issue. Thanks for the advice.

Fixed! Where i purchased pistol there S&W tech guy who fixed it and added loctite. He said it shoild never come out on its own again.

Glad it worked for you. However, if you have a roll pin that walks the proper way to fix it is to replace it. Keep an eye on it.
