I am new to the site but am looking for suggestions. I carry an M&P 40 Full size for my concealed carry. I have been using the Hornady Critical Duty ammo but have recently ran into jamming/feeding problems. No other issues with any other "practice" ammo. Any suggestions on other "defense" ammo that's out there? Thanks

I've shot a whole range of ammo from the cheap steel & aluminum stuff to Gold Dots with never a single failure of any kind. Don't believe I've heard of anyone that has problems with that ammo.

How old is your gun and about how many rounds have you put though it? Can you tell if the problems occur with just one or two magazines? They could be dirty or the springs need to be replaced.

As far as other ammo goes - Gold Dot critical duty is very good. If you just want practice ammo the M&P should handle anything you put in it.

You should break down your gun and pay particular attention to the feed ramp if it is dirty and not nice and shiny that could cause misfeeds. None of my M&P's have issues of any type of ammunition so aside from the feed ramp also check your magazines for weak or even broken springs, barring all that and if you seems to still have the issue you might want to send it back to Smith&Wesson!

Give Speer Gold Dot 40 S&W 180 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point Ammunition a try. So far, no issues for me with 200 rounds. I have found that on some ammo the hollow point is a bit too aggressive. If your practice ammo is TMJ or FMJ RN it can more easily slide on the feed ramp.

I would also first clean your gun well first and try with the ammo you have. Make sure to polish up the feed ramp.

I like Winchester pdx1 great expansion. I shot some into wet phone books the expansion was good and consistent.

I own an M&P40c. Speer Gold Dot Hollow Point (180 grain) is my choice. I've fired hundreds of rounds of this and Speer's Lawman (target practice version). Never a failure. I buy ammo over the internet.

I also carry the Critical Duty but I haven't had any problems with it.

Depending on your preferences (high speed/light bullet) or (subsonic/heavy bullet),my two personal favorites are either Winchester Ranger T 180gr. JHP, of Federal 180gr. HST.
For the hi-velocity loads, Federal 165gr. HST and Remington 165gr. Golden Saber. My old SW99 loves the heavy Federal stuff! And I intend to try the Speer stuff soon. Dale
