I purchased a LE trade-in M&P 40 from Cabela's in late September. The gun was one of several M&P 40's they had in the Gun Library. Once I got the gun home, I began to take it down so that I can clean and make sure everything functioned correctly, but I could not get the slide to come off. I am very familiar with the M&P, I have had a 40c for 5 years now (also purchased from Cabela's) without any issues.
I took the gun back to Cabela's the next morning and the managers could not get the slide to come off either. I was offered the choice of either choosing another gun or they would send it back to Smith & Wesson for me. I chose to have them send the gun to S&W since it was by far the nicest one of the 40's they had in stock, it looked like it had never been fired.
Fast forward 5 weeks, I get a call from Cabela's saying my gun is back from S&W and I can come and pick it up. When I got to the store and opened the box there was a signed function checklist from S&W. The manager and I checked the gun and we were still unable to get the slide off. In all, 5 Cabela's employees tried to get the slide off & couldn't. We also tried 3 other M&P 40 LE trade-ins on the shelf and those slides would not come off either.
I was then offered a credit or my money back for the gun, but one of the manager's asked me for a couple of days so that he can call S&W and see what if anything they can do. I told them that I will not wait another 5 weeks and I will be back this weekend for my money back if there is no resolution.
