I'm looking to get another M&P , I have the M&P9c ,I love the gun it shoots great after I done some work on the trigger , I did not like the gritty feeling when I pulled to point of break , Now that I have that setup I would like to get a 40 caliber ,I have never owned a 40 but I hear good things , I would like some input on the compact up to the full size so I can figure out what is best to have , any help is appreciated.

I'm a 40 fan, I have the shield, the standard model and a pro L, I carry or shoot them all on regular basis, The 9/40 thing is been done to death, who cares, they make holes when they go down range, I like the accuracy of 40, I was put off of 9 a long time ago and probably the argument is not valid with the better firearms were talking about here, but I find its easier to reload, the bullets are bigger and the case mouth is bigger, I fumble less with the bullets during reloading and I can turn out 40's and 45's faster than I can turn out 9's, (said I don't carry them not that I didn't have them).

You will be able to knock down steel and bowling pins with much more authority and therefore you will win a match over a 9 all things being equal

I have won more than one match because I get away with a less than perfect hit, But I retain the mag capacity and don't have the bounce of the 45acp,

the shield smacks my hand around with defense loads but shoots my reloads fine, I stay with 180's for everything, My pro 5inch runs like a sowing machine,

Here is My son and I shooting, I had the camera On and the little fella is my 15 year old son

I like the .40 also, for the same reasons. Plus, if you have a .40 you can convert back and forth with 9mm, just by changing the barrel and mags. These days, that's not a bad option to have. I have the 40c, but if I were buying one strictly for range and general shooting, I'd go with the FS.

Like a lot of people you will probably hear from, I got the FS 40. I now have both a 9 and 357 Sig barrel. I have 9MM mags on order. So I now have a 40, 9 & 357 Sig all on the same platform. Best of all worlds if you ask me. Personally I love both the 40 and 9. You really can't go wrong with either.

Most of my carry weapons are chambered for the 40.

I have a Hi Power, M&P 40c and a 1911.

My carry ammo is handloads. I'm using either Goden Saber, Gold Dot or Barnes 155 gr HP at 1289 fps. That's chronoed.

It thumps. :)

I just got an mp40c and love it. Looked at a shield but didn't like it. The mp40c was much more comfortable for me and I figured it would be more comfortable to shoot. I do have a 9 barrel for it as well. Also plan on getting the 357sig barrel when I can find one. I would also like to run across some full size mags to go in it.

I picked up an M&P40FS a few months ago and really like it. I've shot 9mm, .40 and .45's in the past. All seemed just fine to me as far as recoil goes.

If you already have a M&P9, why don't you just get a .40 barrel and magazine and try them out in your frame? The 9, 357 Sig and 40S&W frames are all the same. That way you aren't out too much for a gun you may or may not like.

Have a 40 FS and love it. 15+1 mag.
Shot a 40c and it is nice also. Only 1" difference in length. Would get a 40c as my 2nd but would not give up my FS!!!

I have mostly 9mm's and took the plunge, purchase my first .40, M&P 40c and could not be happier. The m&P 40c is my main "CCW" and "Go to gun".

I have also picked up a 9c barrel and extra 9mm mags, so I can pretty much turn it into a 9c.

I like 40SW myself & have four pistols chambered in it. A 4013TSW, A 4006, an M&P40C, & a Shield in 40SW. The 40c is an excellent all around gun: fun at the range, & easy for CC. Before I got my Shield I pocket carried the 40c in a Desantis holster. It was snug, but I made it work. The Shield carries a lot easier but is not a lot of fun at the range, to me. As there is not a lot to grip it will beat your hand up. The 40c is much more comfortable. I can't comment on the FS because I haven't shot one yet. But there may be one in my future if I can tear myself away from the 3rd gens, at least temporarily!
