I just bought the M&P 40 compact and am having trouble with it not feeding correctly. I am wondering if it's just part of the break in period or if I have a problem. I have put 200 rounds through it so far. The round gets stuck at an angle not allowing the slide to close all the way. If I give it a bumb on the grip it will then close. I don't see what it might be catching on and it only does it about 1 out of 9 times. I did give it a good oiling to see if that would help but it didn't help enough. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a 40c and have never experienced a failure to load. I would field strip the gun and give it a good cleaning and lightly lubricate it. Also, what ammo are you using? Are you using re-loads? If after thoroughly cleaning and lubricating and using factory ammo you are still seeing the problem, I would contact S&W service. Your gun should operate perfectly from the first bullet.

My M&P40C has done that with lead bullets. Maybe 3 or 4 time out of 100. It has never done it with jackated bullets. If you have a dremel tool, you could polish the ramp and chamber. That is polish, not grind. I use a bullet shaped felt pad with red polishing compound.
It could be your magazine. I have had a problem with the case mouth catching on the front of the magazine. I fixed that by tapering the front inside of the mag where the bullet and case slide across it. That doesn't sound like your problem.
I hope you find it.

I am going to try different ammo and see if that will help. If that doesnt help then I will try to polish the ramp. Thanks for the help.

You could always send it to the factory and have it fixed before you do anything to it.

I'd suggest running about 300 rounds of FMJ through it before making any modifications. FTF's are not uncommon in the compacts, and the issue normally goes away with some "seasoning".

Does it happen with both of the magazines suppied or just one of them?

Just went to the range and tried some different ammo. I put another 100 rounds through it without any problem at all. It shot great. I love my M&P!
