Here is the story:
I ordered a full size M&P 9mm barrel for my .40c from Midway on the 13 Oct 12 after reading around here that it should be alright. Figured, what the heck. Well, it just came in the mail. I put it on and, I am no gun expert (this is my first pistol after all) but I know it is not right when my slide seems to "stick" when I rack it back to the point it will not lock. I definately will not shoot it this way. Besides, I have no 9mm mags. My first instinct is to sell it to someone that has a full size that is local who can try it on first, or see if I can send it back. I am pretty handy with tools. If there is some advice from the "gurus" around here, or something I am missing, I am all ears. Thanks in advanced. I have learned much here, but obviously not enough.

You will need a M&P 9c barrel in your M&P 40c. The M&P 9 barrel you have is designed for a full size frame and slide, and will only function in an M&P 40 full size. :( You can purchase compact or full size magazines in 9mm at 44Mag.com. The full size will feel and look better with an Xgrip magazine adapter... IMHO. :)

Let me know if you can't sell it locally. I was considering buying a FS 9 barrel, might help us both out.

You should get the compact barrel for a compact gun, as advised above ^^^ ;)

And I don't think you will have any trouble at all selling your FS barrel. In fact, I bet someone will pay you a bit extra for it, because they are HOT items and you have one in hand!

Well, I read in a few places (couldn't tell you where right now) that it was the same concept as using a longer "threaded" barrel. I went to midaway to order a fingered base plate for my .40 mag and ran into this barrel being available. So, out of impulse and curiosity, I ordered it. Figured, what if? And if not, just sell it for the same I spent. Well, the later happened and ...

Send it back to Midway....

Send it back, maybe just maybe they might be able to send you a 9c barrel. If you get your name on the back order list, it still should not take too long either. A little patience and you will end up with the right barrel.
Make sure to get a 9mm magazine as well. It's a must for a properly working 40c with a 9mm barrel.

Also look around, not just on the Internet. I picked up a few 9mm magazines at one of my local gun shops. Another customer just wanted a pinky extension for his compact magazine. The guy working there pulled out a box full of M&P magazines. He went ahead and exchanged him mag for the one he wanted.

I dug into the box and got me a few " Like new" magazines. I have not had any problems with them. And at $20 a piece, I was quite happy.

I was actually there with a friend just checking out guns. Right place at the right time.

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions, guys. I am going to contact midway and see if I can send it back. Upon closer inspection of the barrel, on the left side of the ramp, it LOOKS USED! I have put over 600 rounds thru my .40c and the ramp looks perfect. This barrel's looks somewhat worn. It is a little unnerving that I ordered something that is supposed to be "New" and it looks like its had 2k plus rounds thru it.

But, on another note. I believe there are "different" types of barrels for our m&p's. I have looked at many a videos from Utube of .40C's being dissassembled, and all of their barrels look the same. They have a "bolt like" pattern at the base in front of the chamber. Mine is "SMOOTH"? I know I will catch heck for this. But I will try to post pics later. I can't carry in uniform, so I don't have it with me. But, bottom line is, that my .40c barrel looks different than any other picture/video of the same that I have seen. Please, forgive my ignorance. Just trying to make sense of what I am seeing.

I found some pics. I am trying to attach. Lets see if it works first before I go into it.
Alright, it worked. Any way, the one on the the top is my barrel (well, not MINE, but what I found that looks like mone). The one on the bottom is what I most commonly see. Notice my attempts to point to what I am talking about on each barrel. I believe that, some of what I have been reading from other posters about their slides kind of "hanging up" or "catching", may be due to this. Any thoughts as to why some are one way and some the other?
