M&P 45 2.0 - Thumb Safety or No?

My way or the highway! LOL

There is no reason to have a manual safety on a striker fired handgun.

StephenWhoDat??? an apt name my friend... there are lots of good reasons to have a manual safety on any weapon,, you don't see any military rifles without safeties?? there is a reason, same with most military handguns throughout history...

and its not to idiot proof them either,, stupidity has a genius all its own.. but I'll keep my safety thanks,, feel free to do without,, but leave mine alone!

On the other hand, NONE of my revolvers have safeties,,, LOL.

Whatever floats your boat. Me? I don't want any external safeties on my EDC. Should the day come, (and I hope it never does), that I have to draw in anger, I want my Shield 45 ready to go.

not on subject.. However I hope you never draw in ANGER..
we don't get to shoot people because we're mad at them.

I'm a long time 1911 shooter.

I've long believed that it's best not to use guns with significantly different manuals of arms, particularly if the gun is to be used quickly.

Obviously, revolvers and bolt action rifles each have essentially the same manual of arms. In other words, revolvers all have the same manual of arms. Likewise, bolt action rifles all have the same manual of arms. Semiautomatic pistols don't.

I much prefer the 1911 and it's thumb safety and always prefer the thumb safety on any other pistol.

this is, imho, a question of personal experience and preference.

I have a Glock 19 - no external safety of any kind. at home, in the bedside stand, not a problem, to me. but I do not CC the Glock - it's like not non-printing, for openers....

my daily CC is a Walther PPK/s - external safety + double action for first shot. i.e.... when I'm wandering around areas where self-defense is highly probably . . . the safety is off, and the first round double action provides a degree of 'not likely to accidentally discharge on draw'

I have, and routinely CC, the M&P Shield 2.0 in 9mm. with external safety - and I'm not at all happy with the design change from a flip down lever to a embedded button . . . regardless, same approach used - in an iffy area the safety is off. whether IWB/OWB/Sticky on the console, , ,
not enthralled with having to flip off a 'button' safety.

given a military background of the 1911, I'm muscle programmed to flip the thumb safety when drawing the weapon. curiously, the M&P compact .22 has that (near) identical design - the PPK/s, the Glock, the Shield 2.0 does not.

anyone aware if the Shield 2.0 / 9mm can be retrofitted with a thumb flip external safety?

Raised on 1911s and Third Generation Smith autos, so I'd probably be wondering what fell off if I didn't have contact with a safety. I'm good with it - but I'll pass on those ported barrels and plastic sights.
