Last week I purchased an M&P 45 and M&P 22. Took them to the range and fired about 50 rounds through the 45 to start seating it in. This weapon is one of the finest I ever owned. I am normally a 1911 guy, have been for years. But my M&P is right up there with it in confidence for daily carry. I ran 350 rounds through the .22 and no malfuntions with it. I used CCI Mini Mags and CCI vellocitor ammo the most. I also fired Federal Lightning and some Remmington. The best groups were with the CCI stuff. At 30 yds I held consistant 1.5-2 inch groups at 10 rounds per group. Going tomorrow to punch another couple hundred rounds through it. Anyone thinking of buying an M&P 22 couldn't miss with it. A great training and plinking pistol.

I love the M&P45, I have the full size, only issue I have is I wish the stock trigger was the same as the 9mm. & .40S&W, I hate that it breaks all the way to the back and I hate how heavy that pull is. Apex kit does wonders however.

Like you, I am normally a 1911 guy. Or I should say was a 1911 guy. Everything you said is spot-on with my experience. My favorite pistol is a M&P45 mid-size (4-inch barrel) that has been "Apexed" with the DCAEK, it made a huge improvement to an already fantastic firearm. I have several M&Ps and other fine handguns, but my M&P45 & M&P22 are the only ones I take to the range anymore. I carry the 45 quite a bit. The 22 makes a great trainer.

I'm saving up for the M&P22 to add to my growing collection of M&P autos. I liked my first M&P45 so much I ended up getting a second one but this time scored the FDE frame. Since my 2 M&P45 both have the thumb safety, which I like, the M&P22 is a natural fit for el cheapo practice! Thanks for the pics!

I LOVE my M&P22. makes for a killer squirrel gun too on the property.

If you actually meant to say 30 feet, that is very VERY good grouping.

If you really meant 30 yards that is UNBELIEVABLY FABULOUS GROUPING!!! :D

My M&P22 isn't that good of a shooter... Fun, but not accurate.

At 30 feet with my M&P22, I'm putting them into a group the size of a half dollar. 30 feet is nothing. 30 yards, they open up, just like my centerfires do, but I still shoot the face of a Zombie target at 25 yards with the M&P22.

The only thing about my M&P22 i am not head over heels about are the blank rear sights

Has anyone tried white dot stock rear sights off another M&P on their .22?

i have a set of rear stock sights off an m&p45 i upgraded... The sights look like they should fit my m&p22, but in trying to install they feel as if they require a little dowel tapping to get them in. I dont want to force it and scrape up/damage the firearm.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks!

Mines a great shooter too. Half dollar size groups at 30',"piece of cake". After all the "so-so" reading I did about them,I was almost having second thoughts about buying one. Glad I did now. Not a tack driver, but close enough. "Higher grade" ammo does help tons.

B.A.
I ordered a stock rear sight from S&W for their 9mm and installed on my M&P .22. It took a little work with a metal file, but no more than 5 mins.
I did force it in a tad which caused some scraping on the slide (top) where the sight goes in. This was easily fixed with flat black paint. Since it is on the actual dovetail section where the sight covers it up I only had a few millimeters to touch up.
I find the gun shoots a little high with this rear sight and the stock .22 front. I put a laser on the gun and dialed it in with that, then when I get a sight picture I find it is a tad high, but nice grouping.
I tried to paint the original black sight before replacing it, but couldn't get the paint to stick, even after preparing the surface.

Is the .22 also a good trainer for the S&W 40? The guy at the gun store told me it would be and the target ammo for the .22 is significantly less expensive.

It's a great trainer for all the FS M&P's and much cheaper to shoot. Only difference is the obvious lighter recoil of the 22.

Dawson Precision's adjustable rear, fiber optic & matching front sight for
the M&P's looks like a great option. Any news that they are going to
offer a comparable sight set for the M&P 22, as they specifically exclude
the M&P 22 from the app list? Seems to me like a set for the 22 should
in their product lineup in the future. They do have the front sight for the
22, so it would seem like we should be a short step away from the
adjustable rear sight.

I also carry the M&P .45, and own the M&P .22. You are spot on! a great combination for anyone to improve there shooting & training. Quick question for you and all, how do you get the LE badge & military tag emblem's on your profile?
