M&P 45 vs Springfield XD45

I have both but the fact that I can change the grip on the Smith makes it feel better in my hand. The XD45 has a much better trigger out of the box though, IMHO.

The XD has a better trigger out of the box. The M&P has better ergos with backstraps that also adjust for width, not just depth of the grip. The grip safety is something people either don't mind or despise. I honestly don't mind it at all, so firing an XD or XDm is pretty enjoyable for me too.

It really boils down to personal preference.

I've had 2 XD45s and now own a M&P45FS. I'd take the M&P hands down every time. Stick an Apex sear in it and call it a day. Even the stock trigger is fine and I feel it's complained about more than it needs to be. My M&P45FS is also a tack driver unlike the 2 FS9s and 9c I had.

I don't mind the grip safety on the XD/M/S series, but the roll pin that locks in the striker on top of the slide can eventually break, which I see as a design flaw. They were able to eliminate it on the XDS and should redesign the other models to be the same. Eliminating the worthless gear and giant suitcase would bring down the cost as well.

Either way it's up to you, but I'd always recommend the M&P45 to anyone asking the same question. Heck, you could throw Glock in there as an option and my answer would still be the same. ;)
