I'm thinking of the addition of a compact .45 to my collection. The M&P 45C is at the top of my list. I have a full size M&P 45 and it's a great gun.

Then I spotted a NIB S&W 457 at my dealer for $499. Looks like a very nice little 45. I'm only reading good things about it.

Now I'm starting to consider the 457 instead of the M&P. Any input appreciated.

Hi Cliff. I would go for the 457 since I've had one for about ten years. I don't remember mine ever having a feed problem and my only gripe was that I had to take some off the front sight to get it to shoot on target at 25 yards. Good little gun.

Another vote for the 457, on trigger alone if nothing else. Then add in accuracy, reliability, manual safety/decocker, and 457's can be found LNIB for cheap.

The 457 is a great carry 45. Good luck with your decision! Regards 18DAI.

I never had a 457, but I do have the M&P 45 compact. Its a great gun. ACCURATE, decent trigger, and recoil is surprisingly mild for a 45 in a small package.

Thanks gents. I'm going to go fondle the 457 in a little while. Hell, I guess I could buy both..

Go for the 457, I carried one as a back up to my 4566 for years and it's a great gun. I bought an M&P compact last year and sold it the following week. Trigger sucked and the entire gun just seemed cheap but I hear the newer ones are better!

Well I bought a 457. I brought it home, field stripped and lubed it then headed for the desert. I put about 75 rounds through it of mixed 60's vintage military ball, Rem Golden Sabers and some of my reloads.
I like it. Shoots to point of aim and accurate. A little snappy but better than my .40 Glock 23.
I'm a little surprised by how long this gun has languished. The fired casing was dated 11/02.

If anybody is interested my dealer has a second new 457 available.

Thanks!
