Yea I saw the apex, but I don't wanna be having to file on the barrel to make it fit.
Yes you do, it improves accuracy and overall reliability if done right. Think of it like orthotics for your feet. The standard insole works fine for most, but a custom insole fits you like a glove and allows greater comfort. Once I get my groupings smaller I'm going to go with the apex

I've tested the wilson and the apex amongst others in the ransom rest. When I say tested I mean it I rang them out. The Apex is in another league. No offense to Wilson they are better than most others. However I've yet to test any 9mm gun or barrel that can out shoot the apex.

I've looked around and can't seem to find a standard 9 5" barrel non ported or threaded. Any ideas?

You can get a storm lake in 5" without the ports or the threads. I bought one before the apex was available. However as others have said, the apex is in another league

Why do you want it?

If it is to improve accuracy on a full size M&P 9 mm, then it is unlikely any drop in barrel will help you.

All the barrels that require some fitting improve accuracy to some degree. The best way to improve accuracy is with a fully fitted or gunsmith fitted barrel.

If it is not to improve accuracy and you don't want threading or porting, then why do you want it?

I cannot use it in USPSA unless I shoot in open class which I do not want to.

I shoot USPSA in production. The storm lake is more accurate than I can be. The apex would be even better. You can also get a KKM. It is a little better than the storm lake but still not the apex. If you are A class or better, then get the apex. If not, then either of the others will do for a little less money.
