Does anyone know if this pistol can handle +P ammo?

Yes have fired plenty of +P and Nato rounds in my M&P pistols.

Short answer is Yes. I've shot a bunch of Winchester NATO and some other +P rounds through mine.

Longer answer comes from the manual.

“Plus-P” (+P) ammunition generates pressures in excess of the pressures associated with standard ammunition. Such pressures may affect
the wear characteristics and may result in the need for more frequent service"
