I traded my Shield 40 for another Ar and then bought an fde Glock 17, well i live in Houston and the 17 will be a little too big for carry in the summer time. Wasnt a fan of the Shield 40 because i think the 40 was just a little too snappy in a 3.1" barrel, thoughts on the 9c?

I would just get the Glock 26 but im a fan of S&W and want to give the M&P line another shot. Im leaning heavily towards the 9c but i would like to get some input from you guys first.

Thank you

I had the choice to buy a Shield 40, or a 40c. Since the 40c fit my hand better than the Shield, it was a no brainer. The 40c shoots great. In Florida, printing is a non issue. The only issue is which gun fits your hand better. GARY

It is on the skinny side, but if you can get used to it, it shoots great! Lighter/thinner than the 9c (I have both) and very easy to carry. I love mine and shoot it as good as my FS guns.

Good luck either way,
Bruce

You already know the size of the Shield because a 9mm version will be the same physical size as your old 40. You mentioned the Glock 17 is too big, but you didn't say why. If you think it's too wide then you'll probably think a 9C is too wide too. But, if it is only too long and/or tall and the width doesn't matter, then a 9C will probably meet your need. I love my 9C, but usually carry a single-stack instead because of the 9C's width. Really it's a personal choice and what I or anyone else thinks isn't as important as what you are comfortable with.

9c

My girlfriend had her heart set on the Shield until she fired it. She said it was too snappy even chambered in 9mm. I put a few rounds through it and agreed. She then fired the 9C and hasn't looked back. I personally think the 9C is better but it all depends on what you like. The Shield is a great gun I'm just not into single stack mags. I carry the full size 9mm and love it. Wish they made a G19 size M&P.

[Scratching Head]... I kinda thought the M&P9 (FS) was comparable to the G17 and that the M&P9c was closer to the G19, but it's been quite a few years since I actually compared them.

If you want a gun big enough to have some range fun and be able to be a night stand and can still carry it then I say 9c but if you want the best ability to carry it then the Shield is hands down smaller.

Comparing from the Glock & S&W websites, the M&P9c looks like it's sized between the G19 and the G26, while the Shield is thinner than the G26.

It's confusing that the terms compact, subcompact and pocket depend on the manufacturer's definition.

I have the 9c and I love it. I use it for a range gun, and a CC gun. When the current HD gun goes off to its new owner (payments are being made on it) the 9c will probably take its place as the HD gun. I am also going to use it in a BUG match next Tuesday.

I have both, I bought the Shield 9mm first but was curious about the 9c. I carry both (not at the same time) depending on my attire. If I had to pick one only then it'll be the 9c because of its versatility.

The Shield 9 and 9c are both excellent guns. They both handle recoil very well and the ergonomics of the M&P line are great. I've never worn a more comfortable gun (aside from a little 380) than the Shield. However, the 9c is more versatile IMO. It's a good all around firearm for most purposes. If I had to choose between the the two, I'd go with a 9c.

i have a shield 9, shield 40, and a 40c. my wife claimed the 40c as her edc. leaving me with the shield 9. up until a few weeks ago, i carried the 40c. i'll first address the size.

the height and length of the shield to the compact are almost identical. the only real noticeable difference is the width. the much smaller shield is easier to conceal, but the compact can be concealed also as i pocket carried it daily.

as far as perceived recoil goes, when i first shot the shield 9, it's comparable to the 40c. the shield 40 was not that much more noticeable than the shield 9 or the 40c. i have not shot any other 9mm other than my shield 9 to be able to say with any authority. but given the minor differences between the shield 40 to the shield 9 to the 40c, i would say that the 9c would be just a little less snappy than the shield 9.

Size wise the M&P9C is in between the G26 and G19, the M&P9 (FS) is in between the G19 and G17. I have all of these and have compared the size. The 9C is closer to the G26 and the M&P9 (FS) is closer to the G17.

I prefer the M&P9c over the G26 for carry. I also have the shield and I am leaning toward the 9C as my preferred carry over the shield but not by much.

I have both and have replied to many similar threads here in the past. I believe if you do a search you will find countless posts and helpful info on this comparison.

IMO, I like the 9c better. I carry both and don't notice the extra 1/4" in thickness of the 9c. I like the increased capacity. I would rather not have an external safety. I like the rail on the 9c. Mostly, the 9c in flat out more comfortable in my hand.

The appeal of the Shield is thinness and the external safety. My wife prefers the Shield for those very reasons.

Both would serve you well.

Wife and I both have 9c's. Choice between the Shield and 9c and it was an easy pick for us - the 9c fits both our hands better and as a result we are more accurate with it. The Shield is certainly smaller for CC but for us the 9c beats out the Shield because it works better for us.

I went to a range that rented both the Shield and 9c so after shooting both I got a 9c. I have long fingers so the 9c fit better my better than the Shield. I have fired 100 rounds of FMJ and 50 JHP so far and it did not miss a lick. I plan on going to a CCW class before the year is out so I can carry it.
