M&P 9C with Apex hard sear and USB

i installed the apex hard sear and the ultimate striker block this morning on my m&p 9c. i have a mass compliant and i used a fishscale to measure the pressure pre and post work. i went from approx 9.5 lbs to just under 6 lbs. it shoots like a totally different gun. i liked it before but it is really smooth now. i need to get used to the reset as it is quite a bit less now. i did not do the trigger spring yet and i think i might hold off on that for now. the biggest pain was getting the rear sight off. i still need to zero it in but only had time to blast off 50 rounds this morning.

I recently installed the Apex Tactical hard sear and striker block in my 45C, but kept the stock trigger return spring. Made it a totally different gun. The stock trigger action of my 40C is very smooth, but my 9C is just as bad as my 45C used to be. Based upon the results of the 45C install, I ordered the sear and striker block for the 9C.

The reset assist mechanism for the 45 and thumb safety models is in the works, it should be available for sale within a few months.

Scott, you've certainly seen Mark Moritz's recent piece regarding triggers. Mark was on the staff at Gunsite during my 250 many, many years ago. He is known as a thoughtful man.

Is there any reasonable chance Apex will provide a DAK-like trigger for the M&P? Some of us pocket carry (oversized "Bill's Khakis", model MIP) and that would make a significant difference.

I did see the article, and quite enjoyed it.

The FSS and trigger we manufacture could be utilized for this contract if they chose to go that route. But I feel there is a better alternative from S&W. Take a look at the SD model guns, they fit the bill for a DA gun, they're safe, cheap, reliable and are easy to use. I wish Smith woul see that and offer the SD up for the contract.

I have a MA M&P9c as well and also did the hard sear and ultrimate striker block, but it only brought it down to 6.8 lbs. The gun shoots better now but its to heavy for me and my accuracy with it is not where i want it. I've ordered a standard trigger from Midwayusa to see how that goes. From other discussions, i've read that this is the best combo for the M&P9: to replace these 3 parts, but keeping the heavier MA sear spring.

Keeping the heavier MA sear spring is a good idea, the more pressure on the sear, the less likely you are to have a dead trigger.

Just installed the regular trigger spring (non-MA spring) and it made a world of difference on my MA compliant M&P9c.

From 6.8 lbs (with Apex sear and striker block already installed) to only 4.5 lbs with the new spring. I overshot my goal of 5.5lbs, but I'll take it over what i had! I'm glad i didn't go the competition spring or replaced the MA sear spring because that could make the trigger dangerously light.

I might switch back to the MA spring if i ever need to carry though.

Try the mass sear spring with our trigger return spring, that should bump it up a bit.

THanks for the suggestion but thats what I already a have installed: the MA sear spring with the standard S&W Trigger return spring.

The only other spring i had changed out was the Apex safety plunger spring that was part of the ultimate striker block kit.

Our Duty/Carry Trigger Return Spring is heavier rated than the factory spring, I would advise one of those to bump the weight.

Thanks for the suggestion. Is the APEX duty trigger return spring lighter than the stock Massechusetts spring though? I find the MA spring to be too heavy.

Scott, I've not disassembled my M&P with thumb safety, but am curious about one point. Is the thumb safety resistance due to friction between parts or spring pressure? If the latter, is there a way to increase the spring pressure?

The apex spring is lighter than the MA spring but heavier than the standard that comes in the guns for the other 49 states.

Thumb safety tension is mostly a physical geometry thing and can be made stiffer by cutting the notch deeper and the angle more abrupt on the safety.
