I own and shoot a M & P 9mm. Plan to use it as my EDC.
I sure like the reviews that I have seen on the M & P 9c.
Looks like either a good primary or secondary.
Many ideal (FAB's) features, advantages and benefits with this pistol.

I like mine... Got about 1500 rounds through it so far. Carry it a lot in cooler weather. And as a added bonus your full size mags will work in it also.

After shooting my FS 9mm for several months I decided to get a 9c and start the process for my CCW permit. However, I ended up getting the 40c and a 9c barrel. I shoot it most of the time as a 9c but usually swap out the barrels at the range and put 4-5 magazines of .40 through it as well. I love the compact - great gun. Most days I can't tell a difference on the targets between the FS and the compact. Now i just need to decide if I will carry it as a 9 or as a .40 when my CCW comes through.

The 9c is a fine gun. It a great blend of size, capacity, shooting comfort, recoil control, accuracy and mostly; dependability. It's one of the few guns out there that scores high on everything in my carry gun criteria.

For a double stack, I find my 9c to be an easy and comfortable piece to conceal. It is a good trade off between grip height, width while still possessing a decent round count.

As an added bonus, you can still use your full size magazines in the 9c while you are at the range, too.

I have the M&P Hat trick, FS, C, Shield all in 9mm. If I had to only keep one it would be the 9C. Small enough to carry large enough to be accurate on the range. I have the 17 round mags with the Xgrip adapter. Its my HD. The FS rarely sees the light any more.

I like the way the 9c carries, it's almost invisible but the rail is too short for a good light and my 9 pro has the x300u on it plus 17 rounds plus a great holster that I can wear either IWB or OWB. What's with the .40? Can you really swap a .40 barrel for the 9 (I would assume different recoil spring too) A .40 case head is a fair bit larger than the 9mm. I know that you can swap 9mm and .38 Super (at least in the Colt) but a 9/.40?

Drop a 9mm barrel & mag in your 40 and you're GTG. Recoil spring and extractor are identical for both pistols.

I've got the 9 and was wondering if I could put a .40 barrel in, but someone else already answered and it was NO. Oh well.

My last M&P 40 (now sold to buy a M&P9c this week!) was made in July 2013 and had a green spring instead of the blue spring in my full-size M&P 9; the green spring is stiffer. (At least some 40's had the blue spring in the past, but S&W now appears to be selling them with the stiffer green springs).

The breech face is a little larger on M&P 40's, but that shouldn't make much difference with the slightly smaller 9mm rounds when using a 9mm barrel. I'd be interested to know if matching a 40 barrel to a M&P 9 breech face causes problems, e.g., if the .40 rounds are too big for the 9mm breech face. I'm guessing they are, and that combination would fail to go into battery.

One problem mixing and matching M&P 9 and 40 parts could be inadvertently loading and shooting 9mm rounds in a .40 barrel. The Extractor should hold them in place (they would normally headspace on the front of the chamber) but the bullets may rattle around a bit in the barrel after they are fired, allowing some blow-by and probably key-holing by time the round gets to the target. Is that dangerous? I'm not sure -- maybe not.

I wanted a gun that was good for target shooting at the range and also small enough for CC. Not always an achievable goal. I also feel more comfortable carrying locked and loaded when I have an extra safety. For me the 9c with the thumb safety, filled the hole nicely. I traded another gun for a new 9c a few weeks ago and I have not regretted it since. I have shoot about 400-500 flawless rounds through it so far. There is another gun I am looking at for CC too but my 9c is a keeper.

I have no complaints with my 9C. Of all my M&Ps, the trigger turned out the best after dropping the Apex sear in. Breaks almost like a glass rod with little over travel. Good combination of size and firepower. The double stacked mag in a short butt does take a little getting used to, but no more than the 6906s in their day or any other short butt double mag semi auto.

the rail is too short for a good light
I too have that issue with my 9c. The options for the tiny rail are less than stellar, coming from a SF x300 on my FS.

I wish SF would make a light in a similar size to SL's TLR-3. :/

Bought my 9c about 5years ago when they were fairly new on the market. Great gun and the trigger just keeps getting better but that may have something to do with the thousands of rounds I've run through it. It has been fun watching all of the other manufacturers come out with their version of the 9c but as usual S&W was way ahead of the curve. Have yet to see or shoot anything that can match the 9c.

When I bought mine S&W was running a special rebate, $50 back and two additional mags. The LGS sold me mine for $379 (it was a "dealer" gun that they got on the cheap from S&W), so I ended up with a great gun and 3 mags all for $329! I subsequently ordered the DeSantis custom S&W holster which works equally well at 3 or cross draw.
