I know there is a difference but here's the problem I am having. I am thinking of changing to an M&P 9. In searching the S&W website, I can't find any reference to the Pro. I can find the 9L.

I was going to use my LEO/Military discount to order from the factory but I can't find the right SKU. Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance!

Kept searching (Not smart but I am persistent) and found it!

Thanks!

I just picked up a new M&P 9 Pro and shot it side-by-side with my 9c. The differences in trigger pull & audible trigger lock (click), sights, recoil (the recoil cap, spring & guide rod are championship series) and slide action are significant. The lack of a magazine safety is a refreshing change but the white safety notice on the left side of the slide is annoying.

My only gripe is the sensitivity of the slide lock. With the slide all the racked back all it takes to release the slide lock is the vibration from inserting a magazine a bit too firmly. I'm sure for competition shooting this is great but I prefer to rack the slide myself rather than barely touching the slide lock and having it spring forward.

But..., the Pro IS for competition shooting...

Sounds like your gun is just right, like my 9Pro.
If I am loading at the beginning of a stage, the slide stays open until I slingshot the slide.
In a speed reload, I seat the magazine firmy with the heel of my weak hand, and my strong-hand thumb resting on the slide catch closes it.
Perfect!

If you are inserting the mag partway and then slapping it home, that is poor technique. With your index finger on the front edge of the mag, start it straight and then in one motion seat it with the heel of the hand.

Thanks for the advice on technique. I don't shoot IDPA (yet) and never used the catch to release the slide after loading the magazine on my old 92fs. It surprised me when it snapped forward and I wasn't sure if a round had chambered or not. Still getting used to the differences between my 92fs and M&P 9's. The M&P Pro 9 sure does shoot better than the 92fs and it fits my hand much better.
