M&P 9mm Frame Tool

Hello,
Purchased my first S&W today - a M&P 9mm. I cannot get the frame tool out. Hands hurt and have given up. Watched a U-tube disassembly video and it looked like the demonstrator just turned it no problem. I cannot turn it for anything - not a muscle man but I am not THAT weak.
Is there a trick? If I took a pair of pliers or something to try to turn it will I mess something up?

My .40 caliber was like that until I finally got a good enough grip to get it turning and yanked it out, I then made sure to put some oil on it and work it in and out a bunch and it finally loosened up, I would try and turn it a quarter turn then pull it out with pliers dont try and pull it straight down because there is a little nub on it that keeps it from falling out. My 9mm never had that issue though so I think it is just some are tighter than others.

I use the bottom of the magazine to lever it out, like using the claw of a framing hammer to pull out a nail. I saw that on several YouTube vids.

Joined the forum tonight just to ask this question! Got a brand new M&P .40 and my fingers are about to bleed from fighting with this stupid thing!

Got it out! I used the magazine to use it as a lever to get it to turn. Then once it was turned, I still couldn't pull it out. So used the magazine again to use it like a hammer as cjd said above. Slightly scratched the end of the tool but nothing big. Great design S&M! Jeez.

But... you don't need to get it out that often -- only to change grip sizes. Although S&W shows it being used to take down the pistol, e.g., to flick the yellow lever that disconnects the sear, you can do that with a ball point pen, a skinny finger, or anything else that will fit in there.

Yes, the take down pin really is hard to remove, especially when new -- it is a case of turning it and pulling it at the same time!

I got it out, too.
Never would have thought to use the magazine! I will follow the advice ref a little lube and work it in and out a few times.

This may be too late to help, but I've owned a number of M&Ps, and on every one of them, the frame tool has been very difficult to remove. What I do is turn the frame tool with a pair of pliers (jaws well padded) and then use a wooden dowel rod, clothes pin, or padded punch to lever the tool out. I change the back strap to the small one, and then put the frame tool back in...and leave it. I don't want to chance breaking the tab on it.

Edited to add: I don't use the frame tool to depress the sear disconnect lever...I use a screw driver, punch, pen, or whatever will fit (my stubby fingers won't) or I simply pull the trigger like on a Glock, to release the slide. (And yes, I clear it first.)
