Hi guys,

I'm about to purchase the Shield and was discussing a holster with him called Sneaky Pete. Do any of you use it?
Here's the website. SneakyPete

Its the only holster I've seen with the potential of hiding a gun in plain site. I can't imagine it for a larger pistol but what about for a M&P SHIELD?

I would think it would be so big as to be obvious (I've seen them used for smaller pistols).

From what I've seen as far as thoughts on other threads in this forum pertaining to the Sneaky Pete, it pretty much screams "Gun inside!" and that's for small .380's like the Ruger LCP and S&W M&P Bodyguard.

You might be better served with a nice OWB or IWB holster. Have you considered such options?

Hi rjm6120,

What is a OWB or IWB holster? Sorry, i'm new to concealed cary and don't know about these holsers.

There is a fairly recent thread on those. A search should turn it up. I don't recall anyone saying they actually use it. I'd suggest a decent IWB (the N82, Crossbreed, Alien Gear come right to mind) and a decent OWB, I'd highly recommend a pancake style. You won't be going too far wrong.

Edit: Oh, and a good gun belt to go with either/both.

IWB - inside waist band / belt
OWB - outside waist band / belt

And yes, a good belt to hold it up.

Go look at a holster manufacturer website such as Galco or Garrett Holster Considerations
(I've bought Garrett, and been happy with them).

Most serious holster makers have some good FAQ pages.

PirateJim (above) cited some good additional makers -

I use DeSantis holsters for my S&W Shield.

If you want a belt pouch to carry your Shield in I have one I will send you. I got it with a Sig P239 and never used it. I am currently not at home but will dig it up and send you a photo if you like.

My friend has one that is a cheaper knockoff of the Sneeky Pete and loves it. He carries his 40 Shield in it everyday. Looks like he has a lap top case on his belt and takes him 30 second to get the gun out of it. But then he has never cleaned the new gun and has maybe fired 30 rounds through it so him saying he likes it don't mean much to me. Think the knockoff is made by Bulldog and sells for $12. You got to be sure to get the one the gun is vertical in it and the horizontal one is really hard to get the gun out I hear. Don

I use De Santis holsters and love them. But a good belt makes all the difference in concealed carry.

I was just watching a video comparing the Shield with the Ruger LC9s and at the end of it they showed a Boraii Eagle Pocket Holster.

I've pretty much decided on pocket carry and would like to know what you guys think of this. https://www.boraii.com

If you are thinking about pocket conceal. I would suggest a 380 caliber. I pocket concealed my Shield but switched to a Taurus TCP 380 which is half the weight of the Shield.

I prefer the DeSantis Nemesis for a pocket holster. Great quality at a reasonable price.

Good luck, the Shield is a wonderful firearm, but it is my opinion after pocket concealing my Shield for 2 years that a 380 caliber is better suited for the pocket.

I occasionally pocket carry my Shield for quick little trips, buy IMO it's too big for full time pocket carry. If pocket carry is the way you are going to go, look at the LCP. I recently got a LCP Custom for back up and pocket carry when I have no other option. Carries well in a Desantis Super fly but I still prefer to carry my Shield or better yet my 9c AIWB. I find them comfortable, easy to conceal and I feel they are faster and cleaner on the draw than pocket carry.

Hi guys,

I don't ask for advice not to take it but here's the deal. I don't like ankle holsters because they're way inconvenient. And unless I'm missing something anywhere else and you have to have your shirt out or have a jacket on.

I know what your saying about pocket carry but I ain't see another good alternative. Or have I been spending too much time in the liquor cabinet?

Well, if you don't like any of the options you're hearing and before you pocket carry, you might want to consider the Tactipac Elite.

TactiPac Elite Deep Concealed Carry Holster

Granted, it is an unconventional way to conceal, but nobody will ever be able to tell you're armed. The draw can take just a bit longer, but with practice can get almost just as fast as another IWB. If you decide to go with this option, make sure you don't go with the cheaper knockoffs that are floating out there. Check out their Fusion holster while you're there--I have one of those on order.

Hi Deadbug, I'm not sure how I feel about carrying in that position. Its a bad spot if you happen to pull the trigger before fully withdrawn. I'd like to think I wouldn't do that but I'm also aware what stress can do. With the pocket I'd much rather shoot myself in the food or leg than the stomach.

red feather, they have many holders on that site, which one are you talking about?

Thanks guys,

H.j

Yeah, I understand, but I haven't found it to be an issue--a good amount of pre-carry practice...no tendency whatsoever to be anywhere near the trigger guard. Watch the video on how Anthony demonstrates the draw.

Just another option to consider.
