Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and just recently purchased a m&p 9mm full size pistol. It is a very accurate comfortable handgun to shoot I like it allot. In the future I would like to get my ccw permit and purchase the m&p 9mm shield. I would like to get some comments on this gun from people that have one or have fired it.

Welcome & you've come to the right place. :D I'm sure that 98-99% of us will tell you we Like/Love our Shield's very much, and for dozens of reasons. Let's see... Price for what you get (even though some dealers are asking over MSRP) Size, Looks, Shoots very well, Easy to carry, American made, Most everyone has hundreds of rounds down the pipe with no probs. That a good start.

Welcome to the family. Just remember once the family starts it only gets larger. :D Started with one and it has slowly grown into four. don't try and fight it, it is futile.

Read all the threads... tons are posting things like "just got my shield" "another shield review" yada... I love my shield that I got back in April but imho these reviews are kind of getting annoying now. :P

Way to welcome the new guy to the forum. With that great wisdom you gave him I'm sure he can't wait to return. If your tired of the NEW OWNER threads then don't read them. It is not in the rules that you must enter.

Nah... a fool would not want to return to the M&P forum. We are here for all kinds of advice. It's a great forum with lots of friendly people. Didn't mean to sound rude... just that there is a lot of threads that are already available to read about this awesome gun.

So imo, I love my shield. Have about 600 rounds through it so far and loving every min. I love even just looking at it because it's so attractive. If a gun can be attractive... (my gf just got jealous cause I called it that). The trigger is what most people complain about. I don't mind it at all. It just took time to get used to. I just practiced lots of tips and dry fire before heading to the range. If you are looking for a 9mm and like your fs then you should like this.

I am pretty new here too and have received some great advice! Amazed by how friendly most people have been here. I hope you get the same feeling.

On to the Shield...I was lucky enough to find a 40cal last week and snatched it up. While it is not the 9mm, I can say that it feels great in the hand and shoots very well. The recoil is not bad at all for such a slim gun and the size makes it great for a CC pistol. My wife has a small build with small hands and she is very comfortable with it (with the six round mag).

My only issue is with the safety. I am a south paw and having a single side thumb safety designed for a "righty" takes some getting used to. The mag release is on the same side but I am so used to using my left middle finger to release the mag on my Glock it has become second-nature for me. Just know that both the safety and mag release can not be switched to the opposite side so some adaptation may be needed for left handed shooters.

If you can find a 9mm Shield go for it...you will not be disappointed!

Yea I don't mind the safety. It's kind of nice for at the range when handing over a gun for added safety but other than that... I don't really use it.

As stiff as the external safety is, it's no big thing, especially with the trigger pull at it's factory weight. Just leave it off.
Of course... Even with a lightened trigger, leaving the safety off shouldn't be an issue if one keeps their finger out of the trigger guard (as we're trained to). :)

So don't use it. Situation resolved. :p
I think what savagesmoker was trying to say was he is a lefty and wants to use the safety but finds it a little cumbersome not being reversble. I use my safety and really have a hard time understanding all the anti safety sentiment being heaped on one of the finest handguns I have ever handeled. My .02 worth.;)

Bought my Shield 9mm on 5/8/12 and have several hundred trouble free rounds down range. Bought a Ruger LC9 last year and the Shield will now replace the LC9 as my EDC. The factory sights and trigger on the Shield are superior to those on the LC9, IMO.

Will be adding an Apex DCAEK trigger kit and Trijicon HD sights over the next couple of weeks. Should make my Shield even better for my needs...

You are right. Resistance is futile. I'm on my 7th M&P and the collection is still growing.

Love the 9 Shield. I'll be surprised if it doesn't make or be running in the Gun of the Year.

My first M&P was a 9 fullsize but I later went to 40 caliber weapons. I love the 9mm for the cost of ammunition but my EDC is a 40 M&P compact as well as a BUG of a 40 caliber Shield.

Right now I am still fairly new to the Shield but am getting more accurate with it and might replace it as my EDC and making the 40 compact a BUG.

Only reason it is not an EDC is because I am waiting for a Crossbreed Super Tuck to arrive since I CCW daily!

Objective view...

I believe that I am a very objective. I have had the opportunity to shoot many different pistols over the (recent) years including Beretta, Glock, Sig, HK, Walther, Ruger, Springfield, CZ, and Kahr. Just recently, I purchased my first S&W, the Shield. IMHO it is the best carry gun I have ever owned based on the size, trigger, simplicity, accuracy, reliability (so far), etc. Some pistols were a little too fat and heavy. Others had too long and heavy of a trigger pull. Others were single action which I don't like for CCW. Others were too small, they fit well into the pocket, but you couldn't get a decent grip on it. Some had poor sights.

I was so impressed with the Shield I traded in a Sig 226 for an S&W M&P 9C and couldn't be happier. The safety on the Shield is very small and doesn't get in the way. You can choose not to use it. I find that I like to use it when at the range, but not necessarily for carry.
