M&P AR15 high or low shelf?

I believe he's asking is whether the S&W M&P15 is considered an entry level AR...mid-level or high grade.

I've no experience with the S&W line of ARs so I can't give an informed opinion.

I’ve got a S&W M&P15A that I purchased new about fifteen years ago. It is a good rifle that will outlast me. I haven’t looked at any M&P15’s lately but I’d be surprised to hear their quality has dropped.

Low-shelf meaning, the height of the aluminum material behind the selector cam is lower than the top of the selector cam.

High-shelf meaning, the height of the aluminum material behind the selector cam is even to the top of the selector cam.

I just checked my 2015 M&P15X and it appears to be roughly even, if not then selector cam is just a hair proud.

However, it is important to note the M&P15X has a non-standard lower which lacks the integrated trigger guard of the "Sport" models, so I cannot guarantee that it is the same as a standard M&P15 Sport III that you might buy new today.

I want to buy a friend a Super Safety as a present. He has an early 2020's S&W Sport. He does not know what shelf it has.

The Super Safety works easiest with a low shelf.

More than likely it's high. Most ARs are. You'll probably get more knowledge help about AR15s on AR15.com than this forum.

I checked my original Sport without dust cover and forward assist. It would be from that time frame. It has a high shelf as in your photo.

Was curious so checked my Sport III it has the same.

They have a lengthy list. I checked first. The S&W AR!5 is not on their list.

Thank you.

I would wanna know if it came with a full auto bolt carrier like most do that way you can install a binary trigger down the road if wanted.
I know the Colts do not, but not sure about the S&W?
As far as quality, I'd put them just above the Palmetto Arms and below the Springfield Armory Saint.
