I bought a new Body Guard today as a back up. I had one 4 years ago that was loaded with problems so I traded it. I decided to give them another try and wondered if S&W has worked the bugs out since I had the last one. Any comments are welcome.

I ask on the M&P site and a lot of comments said to go with the LCP/LCP2 over the Body Guard. Any thoughts on this and why the LCP?

I bought mine December 2014. Never had any problems with it. Still carry it daily.

Smith & Wesson listened to complaints about the cheap plastic magazine release and replaced it with a metal one. They replaced the Insight laser with a Crimson Trace, a step forward in my opinion. pretty sure the barrel is still MIM, but could be wrong. Have never heard of a problem with their MIM barrel. it's an inexpensive pistol and they had to cut corners. I have a 2012, 2015 and a 2018 model. the newest is my favorite. I've had no problems with any of them. also have an LCP, which "sits on the bench" waiting for the call to get in the game. probably won't happen.

You might want to look at the Remington RM .380 also. i think it is a worthy contender. At $250 i couldn't resist. have not taken it to the range yet, but it looks impressive when dis-assembled.

Good luck in your quest for the Holy Grail of small pistols.

No problems with my BG. I run the same stuff as Oldster. If I can't have my Shield on my then my BG is always in pocket

I bought a new BG. There were none in the case, so they ordered me one. I got it home and I did not like the trigger, so I sold it un-fired and bought a Ruger custom LCP. I have been happy with it for pocket carry around the farm. I also bought a matched set of BERSA satin nickel .380 & .22lr. They shoot just great, but are a tad bit large for pocket carry. I may sell the BERSA pistols, and upon reviews of the new BG, I may buy one of them. I carry a CS 45 off of my property.

Same here... no issues and a great pocket gun. Takes a bit to get the feel of it at the range but after a couple mags I can get 2-3" groups at 7yds, which for me is great for a small firearm.

Don't want to rain on your parade but I have given up on the .380s. I got the Smith no laser BG in 2014 and it ran great for two years until light strikes began and I lost confidence in it. My LCP still is 100% reliable but the mag keeps popping out. The Glock 42 turned out to be a jam-o-matic so I got my money returned and I don't want to put any more $$ into this experiment and returned to the J frame I've carried, problem free, for 50 years. Good luck, hope it wokrs out for you.

I bought a used BG380 recently from Cabela's Liberary. I got it home cleaned it to use the next day and had trouble getting pin back in. Couple of fellows that had been former range masters in military was at the range with us and got it to assemble and work. One of them want ted to fire it so I let him load and fire the other fellow had him stop after 3 rounds. Trigger was taking 2 pulls before firing. Put it back in the box and went back to Cabela's next day. Was treated nice and all shipped back to S&W for repair. It's been almost 2 weeks and I called them no report back from MFG they said it takes 4to 6 weeks to get back. Has anybody else experienced this?

My Bodyguard is the newer M&P version, I'm not familiar with the older models. I bought it, and a Ruger LCP II, about the same time last December.

If you like a light and short trigger pull, you may prefer the Ruger. If you want a trigger that's a bit longer and heavier, go for the Bodyguard.

I happen to like both. They are not my main carry. I use them when I wear gym shorts, or a gun to quickly slip in my pocket on the way out. I do like the Bodyguard better, but by a slim margin.

Since the thread is about the Bodyguard, I'll stick to it. It's reliable and combat accurate. No bullseye awards, but it will get the job done. I can slip it in my gym shorts and not worry about it pulling my shorts down.

Strange it may sound, the Bodyguard has no place on my safe. I'm usually at my computer, and it sits on top of my computer where nobody can see it. But, I can always reach it. I keep it in a pocket holster so I can slip it in my pocket if I hear anything or when going on a walk.

The .380 round is not my first preference, but I never did carry a 9mm when going on walks in my gym shorts or long leg athletic pants. That makes the .380 a heck of a lot better than "no gun".

Me and my little Yorkie were attacked by a 100 pound Pit Bull a while back. We came out of it unscathed, but I found myself wishing for a pocket gun. Now, the Bodyguard feels real good in my pocket.

I love mine. I have seen a few light strikes on cheap range ammo. Never had issues past 500 rounds or any at all with carry ammo.

That being said, I am replacing it with a Sig 365 I am picking up on monday. Bodyguard will be available for running shorts.

I have two of the .380 Bodyguards, neither has ever given me any problems.

I had an LCP for a while, could not keep a magazine seated in it in any pocket.

Due to today's society I'm leaning that way also, then get an ankle holster for the BG.

You might want to ask first next time (just saying!) ;)

I had light strike issues with a new M&P 380, mostly with Fiocchi, or Prvi, but also occasionally with American manufactured ammo too. S&W sent me a label and I had it back in 2 to 3 weeks. It now touches off the same ammo that used to give it trouble. Putting the take down pin in it is a pain, but I've always been able to reassemble the pistol. I hate to say this, but I think I actually like my TCP better. I was considering an RM380 until Remington crapped in their financial bed. I'll probably stick with the M&P Bodyguard for now though.
