I purchased a new M&P CORE 9mm pistol 2 weeks ago.
Took it to the range once and fired off a few rounds.
I noticed that the 10 round mag was difficult to load. The spring was very stiff. I bought a Uplula to help this.
I could only get 9 rounds in the mag, not 10 as shown on the magazine. They added a plastic piece to the end of the mag to make up the difference in length. I called S&W and was told that they used a standard 17 round spring in the mag. With time they said it will get easier to load? I have 10 rounders for my CZ and they load very easy by hand. Has anyone else had this problem.
Unfortunately I live in a restrictive state where ten round mag is the order of the day.

Yes. Most people have had this issue. Keep the magazines loaded with all you can get in. Shoot the snot outta them and over time they will loosen up. I don't have that issue because I live in a state that allows me to have standard capacity magazines (17 round).

S&W uses the same spring in the 17 and 10 rd in the full size and the 12 or 10 round in the compact. To make the compact a bit easier to load I clipped a loop off the spring. I know some think this is heresy, but think about it for a second, using the same spring in mags of different lengths is just asking for spring bind in the shorter mags. All my full size mags have extended bases on them so I use even longer springs for them.

I too am limited to 10 rounds (California). There just isn't enough room to use the Uplula to load the 10th round in. This is not unique to S&W. I guess it's to ensure there's no easy way to stuff #11 in.

As suggested, you can clip a coil or two off the spring if it turns out the spring binds. Others trim the follower in case it bottoms out.

I just use my Uplula to load 9 and stuff #10 in by hand if I feel the need.

The spring will "soften" with use and be easier to load by hand, but binding/bottoming out requires a little trimming.

If you choose to trim, you do so at your own risk. Too much and you'll have a large cap mag. :(

Seriously? Did you even read the OP?

That round will go in, but not with the Uplula. The metal piece that pushes the round down is too thick to allow the last round to get in. So, with 9 rounds in the mag, press down with the Uplula. Then insert the base of the last round and tip it forward as you let the Uplula come out.

It may take a few tried at first, but you'll get the hang of it.

Cutting two or three coils off the spring won't hurt either.

It happens. Try loading the last round into a Glock 21 45acp mag. It takes some prayers, a rain dance, animal sacrifice and some luck
